Summary

Performs general cleaning tasks including the proper handling and disposal of bio-hazardous materials and is proficient in all custodial maintenance tasks at parking facilities managed by the Public Building Authority (PBA) by performing the following duties.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The specific statements shown in each section of this description are not intended to be all-inclusive. They represent typical elements and criteria necessary to successfully perform the job. Some job duties will only be performed in designated areas while others are daily and/or periodical.

  • Operates ride-on sweeper/scrubber.
  • Use gasoline powered blower in stairwells, garage and lot perimeters.
  • Occasionally cleans light fixtures.
  • Occasionally empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal.
  • Remove graffiti as needed.
  • Notifies supervisor of supply needs.
  • Consults with and advises supervisor of facility needs or equipment problems on an ongoing basis.
  • Performs other related activities as assigned by supervisor.

Uses equipment and materials properly. Read and interprets Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemical and supplies used.
  • Attendance/Punctuality: Is consistently at work and is on time.
  • Dependability: Follows instructions and responds to management direction. Completes tasks on time or notifies supervisor of anticipated delay.
  • Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or abilities required.


Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and two years’ related work experience preferred in all phases of cleaning; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Computer, Machine & Equipment Skills:

  • Ride-on sweeper/scrubber
  • Gasoline blower
  • Basic computer


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • None.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (non-physical)

  • Knowledge of all cleaning methods and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the material and equipment used in custodial.
  • Ability to follow simple oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Ability to read, interpret and mix proper dilution ratios of cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to respond immediately to chemical or water spills and other facility emergencies.


Other Qualifications

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
  • Must be available to work after hours when garages and lots are not full.
  • Must be motivated to work unsupervised.


Special Qualifications

  • Must have no felony convictions.
  • Must have no misdemeanor convictions that would compromise the mission of the Public Building Authority.
  • Employees in this position must have and maintain a valid Tennessee Driver’s License.


Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job:

The employee is regularly required to:

  • Walk up to five (5) miles per assigned shift
  • Walk up and down stairs.
  • Stand for extended periods of time.
  • Use hands and fingers to manipulate and handle tools and equipment or feel for dryness or moisture.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Talk and hear.
    Smell and identify different odors.
  • Lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.

The employee is frequently required to:

  • Climb or balance
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job:

  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles in the facilities.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
