Job Title: Certified Nursing Assistant

SUMMARY: Knollwood is seeking Full Time, Part Time, and PRN nursing Assistants for the skilled and assisted living units.
To utilize a full range of responsible nursing techniques and procedures which have a usual amount of difficulty and complexity but do not require professional training or education. Conduct resident dementia specific activities for resident. Provide distinctive and superior healthcare services with these values in mind: respect, excellence, effort, integrity, person-centered care
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (others as assigned):
Works cooperatively with members of the interdisciplinary team
Assists in the orientation of new personnel
Performs duties per established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized nursing standards
Takes temperatures, pulses, respirations and blood pressures
Prepares residents for medical examinations, treatments, appointments, and outings, as needed
Oversees and assists with bowel and bladder programs, I & O's, turning programs, and ordered plan of care
Provides incontinency care for those residents identified as incontinent
Makes beds and physically assists residents with transfers and mobility, with use of appropriate equipment, as necessary
Observes and reports any changes, such as behavioral changes, skin integrity, complaints, progress, and general overall condition of residents
Applies splints, braces, etc. as directed by Rehab
Performs Range of Motion and walking exercises as directed by Rehab
Monitors meal and fluid intake, weight, and outputs as directed
Completes ADL documentation electronically to reflect resident’s care and needs
Provides postmortem care
Assists nursing personnel of higher skillset in more complex nursing care and treatment in order to develop skills and knowledge and assist in maintaining safety and dignity in care of residents
Works under the supervision of the Charge Nurse and/or Staff Nurse, implementing specific and general instruction on overall assignments (depending on the complexity of procedures or techniques)
Assists with and/or performs complete and partial tub baths as needed. Assists with and/or performs showers including shampooing hair as needed.
Oversees and/or performs personal hygiene procedures, grooming and dressing for residents as needed
Listens and responds to requests by residents for assistance
Stimulates and encourages residents to participate in activities of daily living, therapy programs, recreational and social activities
Serves meals and between-meal nourishments, assisting with feeding when necessary
Accompanies wheelchair residents to and from recreation, therapy, clinic, etc., as assigned
Deals effectively with dementia and sometimes hostile residents on an ongoing basis. Uses soothing techniques such as walking, music or quiet readings for disruptive and room bound residents.
Assists with admission, transfer and discharge procedures
Cleans, empties and washes nursing equipment
Keeps residents supplied with fresh drinking water at all times
Participates in in-service training programs
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A genuine interest in geriatric nursing and geriatric residents. A kindly attitude capable of providing tender loving care
Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with residents, resident's families and visitors
Willingness to perform a variety of simple repetitive tasks, many of which involve unpleasant conditions
Capable of working according to prescribed Knollwood and nursing standards under the supervision of an RN, LPN or Charge Nurse
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school graduate preferred; at least a ninth grade education
Completion of an approved Nursing Assistant Program
English communication skills
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant/Geriatric Nursing Assistant as required in the District of Columbia
CPR Certified
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
