Staff Accountant / MPX / Portland, ME

MPX, a Maine Best Places to Work company for 11 years running, is seeking a customer-focused Staff Accountant to join their Portland, Maine team.

Requirements of the Staff Accountant:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; experience in lieu of degree considered.
  • 3 years’ experience with responsibility for general ledger accounting. Experience with payroll processing a plus.
  • Strong understanding of the GL, financial statements, and balance sheet.
  • Stickler for details and implementing processes to ensure accuracy of work.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong customer service orientation and commitment to live up to MPX’s customer service motto of ‘details delivered’.
  • Good problem solving and research skills, and also good judgment in knowing when to ask for help.
  • Solid competence in Outlook, Excel and Word as well as accounting and payroll software. MPX uses NetSuite.
  • Ability to work from the Portland, Maine office Monday through Friday, 8-5.

Responsibilities of the Staff Accountant:
  • Working closely with client services team to gather all information to facilitate timely month-end close.
  • Analyze income statement and balance sheet. Identify issues or discrepancies and research/resolve in a timely manner.
  • Prepare monthly general ledger schedules and take corrective action as needed.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll ensuring the highest degree of accuracy.
  • Process and reconcile all facets of accounts receivable including daily bank reconciliations and receipt of client payments.
  • Participate as backup in all functions of accounts payable including invoice entry, payment runs, reconciliation of corporate credit card accounts.
  • Provide client billing support during month end and other times as required.
  • Reconcile benefit bills.
  • Support Controller with miscellaneous tasks and projects as needed.
