Description

The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for assisting with the daily operational activities of the assigned department, including coordinating and supervising the activities of production employees to ensure the efficient packaging of company products. The Packaging Supervisor is also responsible for ensuring all tasks performed by the production team are performed safely, efficiently and with a focus on quality to maintain and improve department performance. 

This is a first level supervisor position. The supervisor in this role will use good interpersonal skills to coordinate the workflow of staff assigned to their work area, to ensure the efficient of running of the lines they are assigned to. 

Shift: 5:00am-done Tuesday through Saturday each week. Typically a 9 hour shift, but end time will flex with production needs.

  • Assists in the daily operational activities of the packaging department, working as needed to support the packaging team.
  • Coordinates, assists with, and advises department employees of daily work to be completed.
  • Assists with and oversees the daily set up and operation of equipment for efficient and effective operation.
  • Engages in daily communication with packaging team, management, other departmental supervisors, and all employees necessary in the operations process. 
  • Ensures the timely and correct completion of all production and other required paperwork or documentation.
  • Will monitor the performance of department employees to insure they follow established standards and procedures such as Good Manufacturing Practices, safety, sanitation, HACCP, etc., and supports and participates in the plant’s BRC program.
  • Tracks any performance, behavior, or other issues with subordinates, and coaches and/or administers disciplinary action as needed after consulting with Management and/or Human Resources. 
  • Prepares and administers 30-day, 90-day, and annual performance reviews or appraisals for subordinates after consulting with Management and/or Human Resources.
  • Plans for and carries out cross-training of employees to ensure adequate coverage on all job tasks for all days of the week, in a way that will promote safety, quality, efficiency and productivity.
  • Responsible for the management of employee schedules related to ensuring adequate staffing levels daily, while approving or denying time off requests in a timely manner based on business needs.
  • Responsible for monitoring employee timesheets for reporting accurate hours worked and approves timesheets for payroll processing in a timely manner bi-weekly.
  • Will follow all established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Other related additional duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or a minimum of 3-5 years of equivalent relevant work experience is preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of department operations and procedures or previous experience as a supervisor/lead in a manufacturing setting.
  • Cheese or food manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, including proficiency in Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. Capable of facilitating discussion with clear and articulate speech.
  • Effectively work autonomously with minimal management direction.
  • Understanding of HACCP and current food safety/quality legislation.
  • Knowledge of food ingredients and packaging manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand complex verbal and written instructions, and Basic math and computer skills required.
  • Good audit technique and follow up.
  • Ability to write brief reports and log documentation.
  • Ability to multitask and follow-up on employees on assigned tasks.
