SUMMARY OF POSITION: This position is responsible to assist in Early Head Start classroom(s) working with infants and toddlers. The position assists with all aspects of the classroom operations.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Must obtain CDA within two years of hire date. Demonstrate the ability to express ideas effectively with staff/professionals/community members and work with a minimum of supervision.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Support the vision, mission and values of the agency in the implementation of the Head Start Performance Standards and Rules for Child Care Center.
- Promote positive public relations and act as an advocate for Head Start.
- Model behaviors that demonstrate an understanding, acceptance and welcoming of diversity.
- Be responsible to encourage in-kind donations from families and community members.
- Support and implement the Conscious Discipline Curriculum throughout the
- program.
- Abide by the Standards of Conduct/Code of Ethics and Statement of Confidentiality
- (see Policies 133.A and 133-1.A respectively) agreed to and signed annually.
- Actively pursue community partners, to locate and access resources for families.
- Maintain requirements as reflected in the Performance Standards.
- Scheduled attendance is required to ensure an adequate staffing level.
- Travel may be required to attend appropriate trainings. Travel may include overnights.
- Work at other sites as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
CLASSROOM AIDE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enter anecdotals in TS Gold as appropriate.
- Develop positive relationships with families.
- Attend and participate in regular meetings/discussion on needs/progress for each child when requested.
- Be able to accurately fill out accident/incident reports as appropriate.
- Help set up for meals.
- Assist the teaching staff in developing and implementing goals for children.
- Assist the teaching staff in the development and implementation of the lesson plans.
- Assist with the design of the classroom environment and curriculum.
- Assist with center and yard duties to assure maintenance of a healthy, safe environment.
- Substitute for absent teaching staff, as needed.
- Attend at least one home visit per class per year, as appropriate.
- Attend and participate in agency meetings, trainings and in-services.
- Attend job-related workshops as noted on annual performance evaluation.
- Attend Child Development (CDA) classes as required.
- Using the Head Start Philosophy work with individual children and groups, as assigned.
- Attend, participate and commit to coaching plan.
- Must update monthly and maintain personal ORO account and with trainings, certificate renewals, and other position requirements to ensure compliance with OCC qualification regulations.
- Support other classrooms as needed.
- Help with drills and evacuations and assist in the event of an emergency and respond appropriately.
- May assist with health checks as needed.
- Responsible for written communication for parents including paperwork to be signed, notices and calendars.
- Engage children in developmentally appropriate activities.
- Respect the confidentiality of children, families and staff.
EMPLOYMENT – RELATED REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is contingent upon evidence of registry with the State of Oregon, Child Care Division.
Must have a negative pre-employment substance abuse screening and TB Clearance.
After employment must obtain:
- Physical Examination - See policy Pers-07-716.
- Provide evidence of auto insurance; to be eligible for mileage reimbursement or to drive a Head Start vehicle
- Obtain DMV driving record document each year if driving Head Start vehicle or requesting mileage reimbursement.
