ANNUAL STIPEND 16% (currently $7710.81)

Elementary PASS Program Teacher (Positive Approach to Student Success)

The Klamath Falls City School District is seeking an elementary teacher for a therapeutic behavioral program that supports inclusion of all students in grades K-2 who are not successful in a typical classroom due to social, emotional or behavioral challenges. The primary purpose of the position is to combine behavior monitoring and coaching support for students and staff, incorporating best practices. The teacher will work closely with support personnel in the development and implementation of individual and group interventions with the overarching goal to meet the social, emotional and behavioral goals established for students in mainstream settings. This position reports directly to the building principal and Director of Special Services. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaches students and staff strategies and skills, including conflict resolution, responsibility, and problem-solving.
  • Serves as a resource to school personnel, students, and parents in areas of prosocial behavior, social and emotional learning, and individual student needs.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of behavior plans and interventions.
  • Collects and analyzes behavioral data.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Evaluates student progress on a regular basis and uses data to make instructional decisions.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and Board Policy.
  • Demonstrate awareness of the emotional needs of children.
  • Maintain current certification in crisis prevention techniques to include restraint and seclusion per Oregon Department of Education guidelines.
  • Know and apply research-based social skill curriculum and positive behavior supports.
  • Attends and participates in faculty meetings.
  • Cooperates with other members of the staff and other professionals in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Assists in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Accepts a share of responsibility for co-curricular activities.
  • Works to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • Provides for own professional growth.
  • Assist with training of assistants.
  • Communicate clearly and appropriately verbally and in writing.
  • Respect and maintain confidential information in all situations.
  • Physically assist students and lift and/or move up to 50 pounds as needed.
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Skills in demonstrating the ability to plan, collaborate, be a reflective practitioner, and evaluate strategies for improving student behavior.
  • Has effective communication skills with students, parents, and other school personnel.
  • Ascribes to the philosophy that all children can succeed and demonstrates the commitment to do what is necessary to make this a reality.
  • Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices for behavior intervention strategies and using data to make informed decisions.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel, and meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception, and accommodation field of vision.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Training (or willingness to be trained) in PASS and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in teaching students with behavioral/emotional needs.
  • Knowledge and experience with alternative learning methods, knowledge of functional behavioral assessment, and experience with designing behavior intervention plans are preferred.
  • Special education experience is preferred but not required.

LICENSURE:

Possess a valid Oregon teaching license with proper endorsements. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

  • 2023-2024 Schedule - $48,192.58 - $89,454.48, DOE
