Kino School is Hiring a Finance and Fundraising Director Near Tucson, AZ

Kino School is hiring! We're currently seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Finance and Fundraising Director for the 2024-2025 school year. The Finance and Fundraising Director is responsible for fundraising and managing Kino School’s financial affairs. The position includes coordinating closely with the Director working with the Treasurer of the Board of Directors to communicate the financial condition of Kino School, interfacing with potential funding partners, and communicating with parents and other Kino community members. This is a 12 month position with abridged summer hours.

Kino School is a private, non-profit K-12 school that emphasizes independent learning, creativity, and community. Kino's mission is to provide an environment where students have the freedom and responsibility to develop their passion for learning. Kino is a school where creativity, respect for others, and community are valued, and where students of many different abilities can succeed.

Job responsibilities include:

Financial Management

  • Parent invoicing and communication about general financial information and individual account problems, including past-due accounts.
  • Coordinate the State Tax Organization (STO) scholarship program, Empowerment Scholarship Account (ESA) scholarship program, and the Kino Student Scholarship (needs-based).
  • Collect and post accounts receivable in Quickbooks Online.
  • Post and pay accounts payable in Quickbooks Online
  • Record and deposit cash receipts in Quickbooks Online.
  • Maintain financial files
  • Provide employees with Federal and State tax withholding forms
  • Prepare semi-monthly payroll through ADP payroll company.
  • Prepare quarterly Federal, State and Workmen's Compensation reports.
  • Reconcile credit cards and bank accounts monthly,allocating expenses to budget and providing a report to the Director.
  • Prepare yearly financial statement and accompanying notes.
  • Oversee preparation of federal and state tax filings prepared by an outside accountant.
  • Cash flow management and expense forecasting
  • Prepare yearly budget projections with budget committee for approval by the Board of Directors
  • Prepare long range capital and operating budgets as needed for consideration by the Board of Directors in developing long-range plans for the school
  • Provide staff with extended field trip budget forms and approve or revise these budgets as needed before extended field trips leave the premises.
  • Secure annual worker’s compensation insurance
  • Secure annual employee health insurance package
  • Secure annual general liability and vehicle insurance package
  • Prepare yearly contracts for staff with Director
  • Manage parent accounts and invoices with iCare Software
  • Ensure the organization operates within Kino accounting guidelines, budget, IRS guidelines, and GAAP standards
  • Maintain and revise Kino’s accounting guidelines as needed
  • Manage financial review and auditing process

Fundraising and Grant Management

  • Monitor trends and changes in the philanthropic community and discuss with Director and Board as appropriate
  • Research prospective individual and institutional donors
  • Build and maintain relationships with current funders and donors
  • Lead internal fundraising, including an Annual Appeal and fundraising for special projects and events
  • Drive the development, implementation, and maintenance of a fundraising plan
  • Work with the Director & Board to create and maintain a database of prospective grants
  • Write grant proposals and grant reports, and keep records related to grant awards
  • Provide financial information for grant proposals and grant reports
  • Manage grant agreements and other grant-related forms and correspondence
  • Provide donation acknowledgment letters to donors

Working with Board of Directors

  • Attend and participate in Board meetings as an ex-officio member
  • Prepare and deliver reports to the Board about the financial status and fundraising of the school and answer questions or address concerns at the meetings
  • Prepare monthly and annual Statement of Activities and Statement of Financial Position for the Board
  • Prepare other financial and fundraising reports as requested by the Board
  • Participate in Board Committees as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in finance
  • High level of flexibility
  • Excellent leadership, human relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter, well-organized, and a team player

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Experience working in a non-profit setting
