Kings County is Hiring a Social Service Supervisor-CPS Near Hanford, CA

The County of Kings, Human Services Agency has one vacancy for Social Services Supervisor-CPS. Applicants who possess a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) are highly desirable and are strongly encouraged to apply. Future vacancies for this position may be filled from the eligible list to be established. The typical life of an eligible list is six months.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS 
Social Service Supervisor-CPS provides supervision of one or more units of Social Service Workers and support staff assigned to Child Protective Services units. Incumbents report to an assigned Social Services Program Manager.
Duties include but are not limited to those described below. Reasonable accommodation will be made when requested and determined by the County to be appropriate under applicable law. 
Plans, assigns and directs the work of one or more units of Social Service Workers-CPS who perform the full range of child protective social services, including difficult or complex case work in such areas as adoptive placements, protective services, home studies, emergency response, family maintenance and reunification and working with socially or physically disabled individuals; assists in the development of community resources for all programs; assists and participates in the development of Social Service Workers-CPS performing the more routine assignments; makes or reviews decisions on difficult case work matters involving the work being performed under his/her supervision; supervises assigned social services support staff; develops scope of work for RFP's and contracted services; reviews state letters; evaluates the effectiveness of policies and procedures; assists and participates in the development of in-service training and staff development programs; conducts home visits for multiple purposes such as abuse and neglect investigations, safety planning, case planning assessments, and physical inspections; plans, arranges and supervises parent/child visitation at Agency office or other off-site locations; facilitates and participates in Child and Family Team meetings (FCTM) or Multi-Disciplinary meetings; interviews parents, children and collaterals to assess safety risk at Agency office or other off-site locations; represents the social service division at conferences and makes presentations to groups or individuals; evaluates the performance of subordinates and takes or recommends appropriate courses of action in disciplinary matters; may direct research studies and prepare reports; may represent the agency on matters relating to the service aspects of programs.

Any combination of education and relevant experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be:
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in social work, sociology, psychology, marriage and family counseling or closely related field.
Experience: Three (3) years in a California public social services agency comparable to or higher than a Social Service Worker II-CPS with Kings County; OR, two (2) years in a California public social services agency comparable to or higher than a Social Service Worker III-CPS with Kings County; OR one (1) year in a California public social services agency comparable to or higher than a Social Service Practitioner-CPS with Kings County.
License: Possession of a valid California driver's license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements: Ability to: (1) Qualify for security clearance through a background investigation which includes fingerprinting; (2) work 24-hour stand-by and on-call assignments, including nights, weekends and holidays, as required; and (3) requires frequent travel in-county and out-of-county. Certain positions in this classification may be designated as bilingual requiring fluency in a foreign language.
Desirable Qualification: Basic computer operation and keyboarding experience or training preferred.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements: Work primarily in an office environment with frequent travel to perform home visits that may be in a difficult, unpleasant, or unsanitary environment and will often be on a one-on-one basis; exposure to outdoor conditions with varying temperatures and climate; walking on hard or uneven surfaces. Requires mobility and dexterity to work in a standard office environment and use standard office equipment, including typing and sitting at a computer for extended periods; hearing and speech to communicate orally, in person and on the phone; vision to read things up close and far away, and to read handwritten, printed material and computer screen; hand/eye coordination for use of computer/office equipment and files; drive a vehicle to transport clients and children; travel to offsite visits for interviewing and courts as needed and assigned; ability to lift and carry light to heavy objects, including infants and children for distances required to accomplish the tasks at hand; manipulate papers, files and other equipment.
