The Regional Office of Gun Violence Program (ROGVP) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Educator Consultant II - Community Engagement Specialist to join our team. The role will represent the team at community events/meetings, along with hosting spaces for community-building, learning, and feedback. This role will also manage our Youth and Elder Advisory Committees. The successful candidate will play a critical role in building and strengthening relationships between government, law enforcement, community-based organizations, and residents to create safer communities and reduce violence. In response to the public health emergency of gun violence, Public Health-Seattle & King County launched a regional strategy in 2021 and officially instituted the Regional Gun Violence Program in January 2023 and formally announced the Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention (ROGVP) in October 2023.Currently, the ROGVP supports the ongoing implementation of the Regional Peacekeepers Collective Initiative comprised of a coalition of community organizations. This model provides a suite of services within an intervention, prevention, and restoration framework based on best practices of Community Violence Intervention (CVI). Launched in June 2021, RPKC continues to scale up implementation of geographically focused services in King County.Mission: The Regional Office of Gun Violence Prevention takes a public health approach to address gun violence in King County. We collaborate with community leaders, local and state agencies, and national subject experts to coordinate and align community violence intervention efforts, partner across systems, and build capacity to sustain lasting community-led solutions to end gun violence. Seattle, WA. and TeleworkingTeleworking: (Some of the work associated with this position will be performed through teleworking, and will report to office location and to meetings as needed. Travel to other work locations may be necessary. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop and must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours. To support employees during this time King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Key Responsibilities: Community Outreach• Manage Advisory Committees for groups such as youth and elders impacted by gun violence• Ensure on-going collaboration and coordination of shared strategies to reduce gun violence.• Develop partnerships and serve as a liaison to government agencies, law enforcement, and community-based organizations to implement and sustain community violence intervention strategies and programs.• Plan, execute, and host ROGVP community meetings, workshops, and events to foster engagement for community members• Implement strategies to mobilize and empower community members in gun violence prevention efforts• Create and maintain calendar of ROGVP-sponsored events and community events that OVP should attend, table, or host• Collaborate with community-based organizations to ensure they are aligned with the ROGVP priorities and able to deliver on regional approach objectives.• Maintain list of partners (both local and national)• Support capacity building, trainings, and professional development activities for community-based organizations.• Provide resources and support for skill-building initiativesData Collection, Analysis and Evaluation: • Conduct ongoing survey to measure impact of violence prevention strategies• Provide recommendations to ROGVP that reflects community feedback and supports full implementation of regional approach to gun violence. • Facilitate and participate in community meetings and forums to promote dialogue, build relationships, and gather feedback from residents on community safety and violence intervention needs. • Stay current on best practices, research, and trends in community violence intervention in relation to community engagement. • Research gun violence and community-led prevention efforts as needed • Conduct outreach and education activities to raise awareness of proven effective community lead violence intervention, prevention, and restoration practices.
