Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is a global leader in the protection of unaccompanied and separated children who are forcibly displaced from their countries of origin. Launched in 2008, KIND champions a world in which every child’s rights and well-being are protected throughout their journey to safety. 

Building on its extensive programming and successful model in the United States, KIND is expanding in the Americas and Europe to bring its experience to bear in working with unaccompanied and separated children. Our work focuses on addressing the legal and mental health needs of this population; building strong partnerships and engaging in training and capacity strengthening with governments, NGOs, and the private sector; and advocating for systemic and pragmatic reforms to advance the rights of unaccompanied and separated children.

Position Summary 

KIND's Seattle field office is looking for a Social Services Intern to assist the Social Services Coordinator in identifying and connecting with resources in the area to support KIND clients. 

Essential Functions

• Outreach: Outreach to agencies to inquire about available services, referral processes, and event collaboration. 
• Updating and Creating Databases and Resource Lists: Inputting information into databases and creating resource lists for different communities. 
• Event Planning/Organizing: Making calls, sending invitations, and reaching out to agencies for participation or donations. 
• Client Support: Working directly with KIND clients to provide social services referrals. 

• Currently enrolled in an accredited College or University. 
• Fluent in Spanish & English. 
• Strong communication and written skills. 
• Experience working with immigrant families and children preferred. 
• Experience working with children and survivors of trauma preferred. 
• Passionate about issues affecting unaccompanied immigrant children. 
• Ability to commit to 3 days per week for 10-12 weeks during Summer 2024. 
• KIND will provide intern with laptop for the duration of the internship. 
• This internship is unpaid, but KIND is happy to support school credit, work study and stipends that interns can seek through their academic institutions. 

KIND requires all staff be COVID vaccinated with the exception of those who have medical or religious beliefs exemptions.
