Overview

Kimley-Horn has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a motivated Senior Electrical Project Manager, Practice Builder to join our Power Delivery / Substation team in Tampa, Florida. The successful candidate will lead a practice specializing in Electrical engineering services. This individual will have an entrepreneurial spirit and create a vision for growth for an Electrical practice while growing their own projects, clients and team around them.

Responsibilities

This position leads business development efforts, manages relationships with key clients, and oversees all project tasks while mentoring the growth of younger staff. The successful candidate will have a great deal of autonomy to lead, direct, and grow their business.

Leadership responsibilities include:

  • Lead an engineering team while building and managing relationships with key clients.
  • Operate with integrity and sound business principles.
  • Provide practice vision, business planning and strategy, establishing goals, building, and maintaining positive client relationships.
  • Open communication with partners and team, along with growing and directing an electrical practice.
  • Manage projects profitably, transition work to qualified staff, grow and mentor staff, help recruit, and be a positive role model.

Management responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Meeting or exceeding client expectations.
  • Identifying and tracking leads.
  • Making presentations, writing proposals and scopes of work.
  • Establish budgets, ensuring quality and timeliness of deliverables, and supervising the execution of work.
  • Accounting, administrative, marketing, recruiting, IT and production support will be provided.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in electrical design and project management in consulting engineering.
  • Licensed EE in the state of FL (or ability to obtain within a year of employment) desired.
  • Working knowledge of design and analysis software such as SDS, AutoCAD, SKM, ETAP, Easypower.
  • Good understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), State Energy Code, NFPA guidelines, and FGI guidelines.
  • Experience with electrical system studies such as short circuit, over-current device coordination, and Arc Flash Hazard analysis per NPFA 70E.
  • Experience with substation electric equipment layout, power system, switching system, etc.
  • Extensive client contacts and relationships.
  • Business development skills and the proven ability to win work.
  • Experience writing proposals, scopes of work, and budgets for projected work.
  • Ability to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage & mentor staff, and direct resources effectively in a positive manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage energy projects profitably.
  • Ability to cross sell multiple disciplines.
