Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the Culinary Associate is to assist with preparing and serving food to residents, employees and visitors. The Culinary Associate will also wash dishes and clean in assigned areas.

Essential Job Functions:

Assists in preparing food

• Prepare residents’ food according to their specific nutritional needs as specified on their diet cards
• Remain alert to residents’ changing dietary and health concerns
• Prepare food trays and beverages

Prepares food serving areas for use and serves and delivers food

• Set up dining room tables with appropriate dishes and silverware
• Prepare food serving areas, including steam table and salad bar
• Serve residents in the dining area and deliver meals and beverages to healthcare residents
• Monitor residents to verify that they are eating the foods specified on their diet cards

Follows HACCP standards for preparing, handling, serving and storing food

• Ensure food is served and stored at correct temperatures

Uses food and supplies appropriately to maintain budget

• Understand and follow food portion controls
• Avoid wasting food or supplies

Cleans in assigned areas

• Clean and sanitize food preparation areas
• Assist dishwasher in washing and putting away dishes
• Take out trash
• Sweep, mop, or vacuum kitchen and dining room floors
• Clear and wipe down tables in the dining room
• Use good sanitation practices as described in HACCP standards
