JCC Greater Boston, a nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a vibrant and inclusive community, is seeking a Senior Director of Fitness & Wellness to join our leadership team. As the Senior Director of Programs, Fitness & Wellness, you will assume exceptional leadership responsibilities for the overall vision and strategic direction of programming in the Fitness & Wellness Department. In this high-profile, leadership role, you will oversee program development, supervision, coordination, and financial management and be responsible for the overall success of the JCC Greater Boston Fitness & Wellness Department. As the leader of the Fitness & Wellness Department, you will be the primary driving force behind the creation of strategic and innovative Fitness & Wellness programs.
The starting salary for this position is $105,000 - $111,500 annually. The salary offered will ultimately be determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity.
With a member-centric approach, collaborative spirit, and revenue-generating initiatives, this is a pivotal role in ensuring our programs not only meet but exceed the expectations of our community while contributing to the overall growth and success of JCCGB. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Create and oversee the implementation of a strategic vision to drive fitness & wellness program development.
Ensure these programs cater to the diverse needs and interests of our members and the wider community and also have the potential to generate ancillary revenue streams.
  • Actively provide creative input and strategic thinking instrumental in devising programs that go beyond the ordinary, offering unique and valuable experiences that resonate with our audience. These programs should stand out in the market, attracting participants while aligning with our overarching mission.
  • Collaborative Partnership: Effective collaboration is essential in this role. This includes working with those in the Fitness & Wellness Department as well as working closely with other departments within JCCGB to foster synergy and cohesiveness in program development. These partnerships will enable this role to create and implement holistic programs that engage members on multiple levels and seamlessly integrate with other offerings.
  • Stay current on wellness trends by monitoring competitors, attending educational events, reading trade publications, and networking with peers nationwide in order to stay ahead of the trending curve with our program offerings.
  • A crucial consideration when strategically planning and developing programs is to explore opportunities for revenue generation. While the focus is on crafting meaningful and engaging programs, it is critical to consider the financial viability of each initiative. Identifying avenues for ancillary revenue, such as paid classes, workshops, or special events, will be an important part of this strategy.
  • Develop and execute long-term program planning to ensure the continued growth and success of the Fitness & Wellness Department.
Adopt and deploy a Member-Centric Approach as a key facet to achieving the overarching objectives.
  • Actively seek to understand the varied requirements and preferences of our members and the broader community.
  • By actively engaging with our members, seeking their input, and staying attuned to their interests, this role is responsible for developing programs that genuinely resonate and meet their expectations.
  • This role extends beyond program creation; it's about cultivating active engagement among our members. By crafting programs that resonate and continually seeking ways to enhance their experience, you contribute to a vibrant and dynamic community within JCCGB.
  • Foster collaboration across JCCGB departments, promoting a unified and positive experience for both members and team members.
  • Collaborate with Membership leadership to create the best possible member experience, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Demonstrate a positive attitude and hold Directors and team members accountable for providing the highest level of customer service, program innovation, and financial performance.
  • Implement member retention initiatives, such as feedback mechanisms, surveys, and personalized fitness plans.
Other Operations Management Expectations:
  • Develop and manage the department's budget, making sound financial decisions to optimize resources and achieve revenue targets.
  • Monitor financial performance, analyze variances, and adjust strategies as needed to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Valuing data-driven decision-making, gather, assess and report on identified metrics and trends that help inform strategy and development.
  • Seek grant opportunities and partnerships to secure additional funding for wellness initiatives.
Supervisory Responsibilities and Expectations: Oversee Directors of Fitness, Aquatics, Wellness, Inclusion, Sports, and Sports Camp. Supervisory responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Staff Training: Ensure that all department staff members receive appropriate training and maintain relevant certifications.
  • Team Building: Instill a sense of common responsibility and teamwork among staff members to maintain positive member and team experiences.
  • Mentoring and Communication: Provide ongoing mentoring, effective communication, alignment with organizational priorities, and assurance that departments are meeting their goals
  • Identifying key areas of growth and creating individual goals for the year to update periodically and aligned with the expectations of JCC Performance Management program.
  • Conduct supervisory meetings weekly to provide on-going guidance, direction and supervision
  • Conduct quarterly meetings to oversee progress of goal
  • Write and conduct a mid-year and end-of-year performance review with input from the direct report.
  • Build and maintain a positive working relationship to achieve desired outcomes and the ongoing professional growth of the direct report.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 6 years of supervisory experience and personnel management required
  • Significant experience in program development and strategic thinking
  • Fitness knowledge preferred
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC's discretion to meet the minimum criteria.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically; ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
  • Works well independently and with others, building/sustaining collaborative working relationships.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Ability to translate programming acumen into the needs of the health and wellness industry, using a creative ability to translate ideas, feedback, and data into innovative and meaningful experiences that meet the needs of JCCGB's community.
  • Outstanding project management skills from design to implementation, managing deadlines with great attention to detail and maintaining high quality standards.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multitask and manage situations effectively and diplomatically; ability to adapt to evolving needs and circumstances.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to work in person.
  • Able to work well in a busy, dynamic, and sometimes noisy environment involving multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 30-40 pounds
