Keystone Custom Homes is Hiring a Civil Engineer Near Lancaster, PA

Position Overview:
Keystone Custom Homes is seeking a talented and experienced Civil Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in the engineering of the individual homesites for each home in conjunction with the approved land development plans. Additionally, you will provide preliminary review and assistance to the Director of Civil Engineering related to land planning, design, and development of new residential communities. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual with a passion for excellence in civil engineering and a desire to contribute to the creation of beautiful homes and neighborhoods.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Homesite Review: Create and/or review final plot plans for each home with a focus on all grading, stormwater, utility requirements and house placement. Work directly with internal Civil CAD Drafting team to adjust plot plans as necessary. Adjust home location based on customer options, customizations and optimization of dirt management and code compliance. Provide house plan markups to the residential drafting team to finalize grade lines around each home, utility locations, protective railing implications and other house related interactions with the homesite.
  • Dirt Management: Provide adequate review of Civil 3d Surface and dirt volume to provide a balanced site. Work with Director of Civil Engineering and Land Development team to establish and refine measure to eliminate hauling of dirt. Adjust home elevations as may be required or available to achieve balanced sites. Assist Construction Team in dirt management documentation to allow push and pull of volumes from homesites in deficit or surplus.
  • Site Planning and Design: Collaborate with the Director of Civil Engineering, the Internal Land Development and Acquisition Team, External Land planners, and Project managers to develop & refine site plans and engineering designs for our residential communities, ensuring optimal land use, functionality, and aesthetics while maintaining ability to accept our most purchased home plans and options.
  • Grading and Drainage Design: Prepare grading plans and drainage designs that promote proper stormwater management, erosion control, while adhering to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Utility Infrastructure: Design and Adjust utility infrastructure, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems, with the Land Development team as may be required to assist in the installation of infrastructure.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and permitting requirements throughout the project lifecycles, including assisting the permitting department in obtaining necessary approvals and permits from regulatory agencies.
  • Construction Oversight: Provide on-site construction oversight as needed and support during the development phase, including conducting site visits, reviewing construction progress, and addressing technical issues to ensure adherence to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Cost Estimation and Budgeting: Assist the Estimating department by preparing our 10.96.surv data forms based on civil 3d data for each homesite. 
  • Client Interaction: Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, external consultants, regulatory agencies, and clients to address project requirements, provide technical expertise, and resolve any engineering-related issues or concerns.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures to monitor and evaluate the quality of engineering designs, construction work, and materials, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related field required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Pennsylvania required. Ability to obtain licensure within North Carolina and Maryland within 6 months of start date.
  • 5 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on residential civil engineering.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other civil engineering software applications.
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, including grading, drainage, utilities, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
