What You'll Do

The typical hiring range for this role is $62,906.00 to 92,700.00 annually and is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, location, etc. In addition to your pay, Kerry offers benefits such as a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and retirement contribution (all benefits and incentives are subject to eligibility requirements).

HSE Specialist – Melrose Park, IL

Responsible for management of site health, safety and environmental systems focusing on employee H&S. As a member of the site’s HSE Team, provide support and leadership to the site through implementation of HSE programs, procedures, and education initiatives focused on compliance assurance, incident reduction, and risk mitigation.

  • Support business strategy to ensure all HSE directives, policies, and initiatives are effectively incorporated at site level.
  • Develop, implement, and execute HSE annual objectives & improvement plans in conjunction with site operations management.
  • Develop appropriate strategies for implementation of new or revised policies and regulations in conjunction with site operations management.
  • Assist in managing environmental permits and program requirements specific to the site.
  • Assist in the site’s ISO-14001 program including ongoing efforts to attain the site’s ISO certification.
  • Undertake at regular intervals audits/inspections of the site (including inspections of machinery, equipment in use, and work systems in operation) with site operations management to ensure compliance with corporate polices and HSE regulations. Where appropriate, develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions with the operations team.
  • Identify site HSE training needs, develop appropriate resources, and execute training sessions for employees and management staff as required.
  • Assist in leading and overseeing the site Safety Committee meetings.
  • Support site supervisors and managers with the investigation of HSE incidents at the site. Where necessary, lead investigation process and/or collaborate with appropriate corporate staff on serious incidents.
  • Communicate HSE incidents and corrective actions in a timely, thorough, and effective manner.
  • Partner with Human Resources to monitor the status of all open Workers Compensation claims and coordinate activities to minimize lost and/or restricted work days.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in tracking and monitoring site HSE Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and communicate trends appropriately.
  • Maintain HSE records to ensure adherence to corporate polices and/or regulatory requirements. Includes, but not limited to, OSHA 300 log, incident records, safety metrics, training, inspections, permits, etc.
  • Assist in the continuous improvement efforts for the site’s HSE programs and performance.

What You'll Need To Be Successful And Safe

BS in Occupational Safety & Health or related field and at least one year of relevant experience OR at least 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess risks, analyze data, and develop effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence others.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Power Point, Excel, Word.
  • HSE experience in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Professional certification (ASP, CSP, CIH, etc.) preferred.
  • Knowledge of HSE regulations, including OSHA and EPA Working knowledge of local HSE regulations a plus
