Position Overview: The Tire Technician will be responsible for mounting, dismounting, inspecting, and repairing tires for heavy-duty trucks and trailers. This role requires strong attention to detail, mechanical aptitude, and a commitment to delivering high-quality service to our customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Tire Mounting and Dismounting:
  • Mount and dismount tires on rims using appropriate tools and equipment, such as tire changers, wheel balancers, and hydraulic presses.
  • Ensure proper alignment and seating of tires on rims, following manufacturer specifications and industry best practices.
  • Inspect rims for damage, corrosion, or wear that may affect tire installation, and recommend repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Tire Inspection and Maintenance:
  • Conduct visual inspections of tires to identify signs of wear, damage, or irregularities, such as tread wear, cuts, bulges, or punctures.
  • Measure tire tread depth and pressure using gauges and instruments, and adjust pressure as needed to meet manufacturer specifications.
  • Rotate tires on trucks and trailers to promote even wear patterns and extend tire lifespan, following recommended rotation schedules.
  • Tire Repair and Patching:
  • Identify and repair punctures, cuts, and other damage to tires using patching, plugging, and sealing techniques, ensuring that repairs meet industry standards for safety and reliability.
  • Remove foreign objects embedded in tire treads, such as nails or screws, and assess tire integrity before proceeding with repairs.
  • Reinforce tire sidewalls or belts as needed to restore structural integrity and prevent further damage or failure.
  • Recordkeeping and Documentation:
  • Maintain accurate records of tire services performed, including mounting, dismounting, inspections, repairs, and replacements.
  • Document tire specifications, sizes, brands, and condition for each service job, and update inventory records as tires are installed, replaced, or disposed of.
  • Provide customers with detailed reports and recommendations regarding tire condition, maintenance, and replacement options based on industry guidelines and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to safety protocols, procedures, and regulations while handling and servicing tires, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following safe work practices.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements governing tire installation, maintenance, and repair activities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in automotive technology or tire service preferred.
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience as a tire technician or similar role, preferably in a heavy-duty trucking or automotive repair environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with tire mounting, dismounting, and repair techniques, including patching, plugging, and sealing.
  • Ability to use tire service equipment and tools safely and effectively, including tire changers, wheel balancers, and air compressors.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tire inspections, measurements, and repairs, with a focus on quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and interact professionally with customers.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
