Kern Medical is Hiring a Linen Services Associate I/II - Part-Time - Shift Near Bakersfield, CA

Position: Linen Services Associate I/II - Part-Time 

Compensation

The estimated pay for this position is $17.4059 to $21.9477. The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Definition:

Under supervision, performs routine work in a hospital laundry setting.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This is the entry level of the Laundry Worker flexible classification series. Incumbents, as part of a team, receive on-the-job instruction and close supervision. Incumbents are required to exercise standard precautions and are required to use employee protective equipment, including the wearing of gowns, masks and gloves, while working with soiled linen or working with chemicals. While confirming to established safety and sanitation policies, incumbents are expected to accomplish tasks in a fast paced environment.

Incumbents may be promoted to Laundry Worker II, after acquiring the required training and experience subject to the recommendation of the Hospital Chief Executive officer and approval of the Director of Personnel.

Level I:

Essential Functions:

  • Pre-sorts and weighs laundry; sorts laundry for finishing.
  • Loads, operates and unloads washers and dryers in the hospital laundry; checks laundry equipment to make sure it is running properly.
  • Performs general operation maintenance on equipment; submits equipment repair work orders as appropriate.
  • Transfers dry linen from dryers to folding area.
  • Shakes flatwork and feeds it into a presser.
  • Operates folder to fold towels and baby blankets; receives and folds pieces coming from a presser and folds rough dry; finish-folds dry flatwork and clothing.
  • Folds linen by hand; counts and stacks folded linen on shelves.
  • Counts out proper quantity of linen to hospital users according to production and service logs.
  • Cleans tubs, carts and other laundry related equipment after use; cleans lint traps on dryers; keeps laundry machines and work area organized and clear of debris and dirt.
  • Logs information.

Other Functions:

  • Attend departmental/hospital in-service and other meetings as required.
  • Performs other job related duties as required.

Level II:

Essential Functions:

  • Loads, operates and unloads washers and dryers taking into account type of fabric or articles to determine proper laundry procedures.
  • Pre-sorts and weighs laundry; sorts laundry for finishing.
  • Checks laundry equipment to make sure it is running properly; performs general operation maintenance on equipment; submits repair work orders as appropriate.
  • Transfers dry linen from dryers to folding area.
  • Shakes flatwork and feeds it into a mangle.
  • Operates small piece folder to fold towels and baby blankets; receives and folds pieces coming from a mangle and folds rough dry; finish-folds dry flatwork and clothing.
  • Counts and stacks folded linen on shelves.
  • Counts out proper quantity of linen for wards.
  • Cleans tubs, carts and other laundry related equipment after use, cleans lint traps on dryers.
  • Logs information.

Other Functions:

  • Assists in training new employees.
  • Performs other job related duties as required.

Level I: 

Employment Standards:

Any combination of training and experience which would provide the following:

Knowledge of:

Simple arithmetic; safety practices.

Ability to:

Learn and operate industrial laundry equipment; learn and follow proper safety practices; work rapidly in handling laundry; understand and follow oral and written instructions; read product labels and safety precautions; learn basic hospital and governmental regulatory safety requirements and procedures; use appropriate safety precautions when using chemicals; use simple arithmetic; complete logs; stand for long periods of time; maintain cooperative work relationships with staff and hospital personnel.

Level II: 

Employment Standards:

One (1) year of experience as a Laundry Worker I at Kern Medical OR equivalent experience in a commercial or industrial laundry setting.

Knowledge of:

Equipment and the methods and processes involved in washing and drying laundry; products used in an industrial laundry operation; safety practices basic mathematics.

Ability to: 

Work rapidly in handling laundry; understand and follow oral instructions; read product labels and safety precautions; record information and keep records; develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and staff; organize and accomplish tasks in a fast paced environment; adapt to changes in assignments and environment; learn basic hospital and governmental regulatory safety requirements and procedures; stand for long periods of time.
