KERMAN MORRIS ARCHITECTS LLP is a small, established design-focused San Francisco architectural firm with nearly three decades of experience producing Mixed-Use Infill, Affordable Housing, Custom Residential, Cultural, Historic Preservation and Community projects. We challenge our staff to work collaboratively and intelligently to make a meaningful impact on the fabric of our city. To our clients, we offer personalized attention, creative design solutions, seamless technical execution, and expertise in navigating the approvals process. Our current projects include infill mid-rise multi-family, custom single-family, affordable housing and mixed-use commercial/residential projects with a range of construction types including new builds, infill, and adaptive reuse of historic structures.
Our office is located in Duboce Triangle, easily accessible by public transportation, minutes from a vibrant food scene, and we have our own company community garden for our employees to enjoy.
About the Position
We are looking for a talented, motivated and personable Project Architect / Project Manager to join our design studio and contribute to our expanding practice. About You
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for and extensive experience designing and detailing housing, a commitment to urban design, and be licensed or working towards licensure. We work fast, in a friendly collaborative environment. Your skills and insights will be tapped; you will not be bored. Design excellence is paramount, so too are functionality and constructability.
Requirements
Eight to 10 years of professional experience (multi-family and single-family residence design preferred)
BS/BA degree in Architecture minimum (master’s degree preferred)
Excellent design, production, presentation and organizational skills
Leadership and management strengths to oversee and mentor junior staff
Facile with entitlement process, building codes and construction detailing
Fluency in Revit, SketchUp and or other 3D rendering tools
Self-motivated, organized, reliable and good-humored, with a positive attitude
Excellent written/verbal communication and presentation skills
Strong work ethic and leadership capabilities
Eligible to work in the US without the need for a work visa or residency sponsorship
Responsibilities
Work with Principals from conceptual design through technical execution, detailing and specifications
Produce Permit and Construction Documents, including Planning and Building Code research, navigating Planning and Building Department requirements, approvals and entitlement
Manage multiple projects at a time, including design team reviews, consultant coordination, project scheduling, permit submittals and revisions, and construction administration
Assist other project teams and staff members as needed and oversee/mentor junior staff to develop project documents

Transbay 2 West Senior Housing – 151 units of affordable senior housing for Chinatown Community Development Corp. in the heart of downtown SF. (DD)
Sunnydale Block 9 Family Housing – 95 units of affordable housing as part of Sunnydale’s redevelopment of former public housing to an affordable and mixed-income neighborhood. (DD)
Habitat For Humanity, 36 Amber Drive – 8 unit, affordable ownership townhome project for low-income families in Diamond Heights, San Francisco. (CA)
1111 Arguello Street – Habitat for Humanity Greater SF’s 34-unit 100% affordable ownership family homes located in Redwood City. (DD)
1525 Pine Street – A through lot, seven-story, State Density Bonus project that will be using CLT (Cross Laminated Timber) for its structural system. The site has the historic “Grub Stake” restaurant on the first floor that will remain and be rehabilitated. (DD)
Hunter’s Point Block 52 and 54 – 112 units of affordable housing in a new San Francisco mixed-income neighborhood. KMA is working in association with Mithun Architects serving low-income families. (CA)
