    Summary:
    To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education in accordance with each students ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Ability to use and analyze data to improve student learning.
    • Knowledge and experience related to Sheltered Instruction.
    • Knowledge and experience with implementation of 21st Century Skills of collaboration, communication, creativity and critical thinking.
    • Knowledge and experience with Multi-tiered Systems of Support in both behavior and academics.
    • Knowledge of Professional Learning Communities.
    • Knowledge of the 5D instructional framework for Teaching and Learning.
    • Experience in utilizing the Gradual Release Model.
    • Willingness to work with a diverse community and learners.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
    • Encourages parental involvement in student's education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
    • Coordinates with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participates in staff meetings and committees.
    • Ensure student conduct conforms to the school's standards and school district policies and establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
    • Supervises students in activities that take place out the classroom during the schools day, including activities involving school transportation.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee.
    Qualifications:
    • Valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate.
    • Meets highly qualified standards.
    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
    • Educational experience and/or training in teaching the Michigan State Standards
    • Ability to use technology in the educational setting.
    • Knowledge and experience related to English Learners.
    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk, hear (in a quiet or noisy environment). The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust/focus.
    Work Environment:
    The noise level in the work environment is usually loud to moderate. Work is performed indoors although there will be required outdoor activities. The employee is directly responsible for the safety, well-being and work output of students.
    Mental Functions:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to compare, analyze, communicate both orally and in writing in the English language, copy, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, compile and negotiate.
