Overview
The Han lab at KGI is searching for a Full-Time Research Assistant to assist in NIH-funded experiments examining Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathology in mice models. The Research Assistant will be expected to help in experiments involving AD mice models (injections, feeding studies, behavior recording, cage setup) along with blood and tissue collection. The animal work will primarily be performed at Chapman (Rinker campus). Therefore, the research assistant will be expected to commute between Chapman and KGI for experiments. The Research Assistant is also expected to independently perform basic biochemistry and molecular biology assays once trained, including protein assay, Western blots, and ELISA.

Education and Experience:
A Bachelor's degree is required. The successful candidate should have some previous experience working in a lab as an undergraduate or as a post-baccalaureate.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Be able to perform cell culture, western blots, and protein assay, once trained
Successful completion of laboratory safety training
Self-motivation and capacity for working independently
Attention to detail and creative problem solving
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrate ability to meet deadlines
Able to manage multiple priorities concurrently
Ability to handle mice for experiments (injections, feeding, blood collection, etc.)
Assist other researchers (graduate students and students) in various experiments
Demonstrate ability for record keeping and help manage lab inventory
Essential Functions & Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Under the direction of supervisor, conduct laboratory research
Protein Purification and Quantification
Assist P.I. with supervision and training of Master's students in multiple laboratory skills
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to detail with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information; formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans.
Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard or pipette. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example, to lift or move office supplies, files, books, and packages.
Hours, Classification, and Status:
This is a full-time, hourly position. The regular hours of this position are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-5:00 pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the institute or department.
Hourly rate range: $18.00 - $23.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.
