Job Description:
KGI's Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program will emphasize occupation-centered practice, innovation, leadership and advocacy, cultural responsiveness, lifestyle medicine for whole-person care, research and evidence, and optimized service delivery throughout the curriculum. The research advisor in occupational therapy will be involved in working with a group of students over the course of the semester, advise them in developing research based on their and students' mutual areas of interest, and then submit an IRB proposal towards the end of the term.
A KGI OTD faculty member exemplifies an enthusiastic commitment to innovative teaching, scholarship, and service to further the mission and values of the Institute, OTD program, and occupational therapy profession.
Education and Experience:
Doctoral degree from a United States Department of Education recognized and accredited program. Post-professional OTD, Ph.D., ScD, or EdD degree preferred. Must be registered and certified as an occupational therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT). Licensed occupational therapist in the state of California or any other state. At least two years of clinical practice experience as an occupational therapist. Previous experience with research and scholarship preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities : Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
This Research Advisor position includes but is not limited to the following responsibilities:
Provide active, innovative, and high-caliber learning experiences in relevant areas of expertise
Participate in the mentorship of student research projects.
Work with a group of four students on a research topic in an area of their interest during the course of a semester
Have the intent to continue with the same group of students over the next two semesters (summer and fall) for the completion and dissemination of the research.
Meet with their group at least group 1x/a week for 1 hour either virtually or in person.
Provide feedback and grade their group students' drafts and assignments on a timely basis.
Submit an IRB proposal at the end of the semester.
Complete the required CITI training, Zotero, and Axiom training.
Coordinate and communicate with the course coordinator on a needed and timely basis.
Ensure compliance with ACOTE standards through advising and choosing relevant occupational therapy research areas.
Provide documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility and demonstrate knowledge of the content delivery methods.
Scholarship
Develop and carry out a scholarship plan supporting OTD program initiatives, student research, or other relevant professional needs.
Disseminate scholarship through professional presentations, publications, or other relevant avenues.
Demonstrate evidence-based approaches to support expertise in content areas.
Service
Provide student advisement and mentorship.
Participate in professional association activities or leadership.
Professionalism
Support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions and work.
Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills that support the mission, vision, and values of the OTD program, SPHS, and KGI.
Support professional, interprofessional, and clinical collaborations through developing collegial relationships within and outside the Institute.
Demonstrate commitment to working as a team through innovative problem-solving and flexibility.

Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record (as maintained by the DMV) that is acceptable to the Institute's insurance carrier
Ability to lift 30 pounds/participate in the light set-up for recruitment and on-campus events.
Special Requirements:

Physical and Mental Requirements

Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.
Ability to drive locally. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
