The KGI School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for adjunct instructor facilitator positions to facilitate in innovative new Master of Science in Community Medicine Program. Applicants should be passionate about education and helping the underserved and underrepresented, and should have expertise in a relevant field, experience facilitating or teaching, have excellent communication skills, be open to new ways of facilitating, and be flexible and adaptable as the curriculum and pedagogy continue to evolve. Candidates will be expected to have a strong commitment to innovative facilitating in online formats.
Education and Experience:
The successful candidate will hold a MA/MS or higher. Post doc candidates seeking teaching experience encouraged to apply. The candidate must be highly organized, responsible, high energy, with an entrepreneurial spirit, and is open and adaptable to new ideas. Candidates with previous facilitating or teaching experience or employment in community service industry related to community health and wellness will be given preference.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Facilitator Training:
Successfully complete the facilitator training course (via videoconferencing).
Facilitator Responsibilities:
Facilitate assigned courses at the allotted time for 15 weeks per semester. Each class is 90 minutes long, using active learning pedagogy.
Facilitate from previously prepared lesson plans. These lesson plans specify the:
The course-level and individual session-level learning outcomes
Information to be learned (the lectures/videos or sets of mini-lectures and short videos)
Active learning exercises
Quizzes
Meet weekly with the facilitator team for each course to review the previous week and plan for coming sessions.
Hold office hours every week, allowing students to ask questions about the course.
Function as a "substitute facilitator" occasionally when another facilitator member is sick or has an emergency.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position or explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Proficient computer and web skills, including online learning management systems.
Willingness to embrace learning theories in the design and delivery of curriculum
Strong attention to detail.
Self-motivated with excellent time management and organizational skills.
Strong work ethic and team-based approach to working in a high-volume environment.
Superior writing skills.
Ability to work comfortably, respectfully, and competently with people of diverse backgrounds.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.
