KCI Construction is Hiring a Safety Manager Near Springfield, MO

Purpose of the Position:

Working with the Safety Director/Risk Manager on all safety, loss control and risk management initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement programs, policies, training and procedures, KCI Safety Manual, to control losses and minimize risk in all operations of the company.
  • Develop written site specific safety plan for each project, in accordance with KCI policy and any specific owner requirements. Assist Superintendent and jobsite personnel with implementation.
  • Take primary responsibility for matters resulting from accident, injury or regulatory violation to minimize loss and exposure including accident/incident investigation and prompt, accurate, thorough reporting and direct management of claims.
  • Coach and monitor employee behaviors to control losses and reduce risk via weekly safety meetings and regular visits to job sites to perform safety audits and provide guidance for needed follow-up.
  • Maintain records for safety training of all employees. Ensure everyone has completed 10-Hour OSHA Certification within last 3 years. Ensure Foreman level and above have completed 30-Hour OSHA Certification within last 3 years.
  • Inspect projects to detect existing or potential accident and health hazards, and recommend corrective or preventative measures where indicated. Should visit at least one (1) project daily.
  • Perform safety 'audit' of each jobsite at least once a month. Document audit/inspection results and communicate back to Management and the project team. Ensure items deemed as needing attention are completed.
  • Conduct periodic safety meetings at each jobsite in place of project Superintendent.
  • Consult with all projects on potential hazards, safe use of equipment, crisis plan, and overall safety program.
  • Review Superintendents daily Job Safety Analysis during jobsite visits to ensure accuracy, provide scoring and feedback for improvement in safety and production planning.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements of OSHA, MSHA, DOT, EPA, and any other agencies having jurisdiction over company operations.
  • Develop required safety training for workplace safety as required by requirements of OSHA, DOT, and MSHA.
  • Analyze and prepare written reports at least quarterly to Management regarding trends, frequency, severity and status of prior losses.
  • Review risks associated with projects/contracts prior to bidding.
  • Compile and submit accident reports required by insurance carrier and regulatory agencies.
  • Develop/oversee work plans/JHA's/site specific plans.
  • Monitor "Light Duty" program with Operations Manager and Superintendents to ensure restrictions on injured employees are being followed.
  • Participate in new employee orientation process.
  • Develop programs and conduct safety training for field and supervisor employees.
  • Establish and maintain workplace safety records including all OSHA required documentation and logs.
  • Ensures compliance with all OSHA required postings.
  • Assist with the administration of corporate insurance program, including working with the insurance carrier to minimize lost employee time and unjust claims.
  • Review Pre-Qualification documents for subcontractors.
  • Oversee Workers' Compensation claims to ensure proper management of open claims and work with carrier to close claims as quickly as possible.
  • Communicate all accidents or near-missed with Insurance company, and work to ensure no-lost-time status for each accident.
  • Work with KCI management to keep EMR at or below current level.
  • Develop and implement vehicle use policy in conjunction with Management.
  • Obtain yearly motor vehicle records on all employees driving company-furnished vehicles and bring improprieties to attention of Management.

Required Education / Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (Preferred)
  • At least 10 years of experience desirable and strong background in commercial construction.
  • This position requires a self-starter, someone who can operate autonomously
  • Travel is almost exclusively within Missouri, virtually no overnight travel.
  • OSHA 510 & 500 Qualified (Preferred)
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Ability to communicate and interface effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs; Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • High degree of professionalism and strong work ethic.
  • Proficiency in OSHA and DOT regulations required.
  • Thorough knowledge and background in the construction industry.
  • Thorough knowledge and background in safety and risk management.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Ability to carry out the duties described in this job description in an efficient manner.
