Kavkaz Express is looking for a highly motivated and experienced Financial Controller to join our team. We’re growing fast, and growth means the challenges we’ll work on together will change as we lead Kavkaz Express through new and different phases.

Reporting to the CEO, the Financial Controller will play a critical role in strategic decision making and operations as the company continues to grow. This is a management role and will supervise a small staff. The ideal candidate for this position can plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, create, and manage the production of the annual budget, forecasts and monitor them monthly.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Gather, evaluate, and present financial information to senior and executive leadership while recommending further courses of action
• Create, implement, and manage the annual budget and long-range plans
• Monitor and adjust operating budgets to ensure company’s objectives are met. Conducts periodic audits of budget items, including comparing per diems to actual expenses and other budget-to-actual comparisons
• Perform financial planning, analysis, and budget control
• Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual budget reports. Conduct reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities. Review and approve budget-related requests.
• Achieve budgeting goals with proper scheduling, analysis, and corrective action
• Generate monthly reports including accounts payable reconciliation, accounts receivable reconciliation, cash flow report, and balance sheet audits.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Responsible for timely, accurate and efficient accounting close on a monthly basis
• Responsible for the various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary, accounts receivable summary, and journal entries to adjust the general ledger.
• Establish short- and long-range goals, objectives, and operating procedures. Recommend, develop, and implement effective financial policies that guide the organization in maintaining and improving its profitability
• Comply with all budgetary reporting requirements, including local, state, and federal
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with company executives to build in-depth understanding of business needs and requirements
• Interact with external CPA firm and oversee the annual financial audit process
• Develop, implement, and maintain accounting and finance policies, processes, and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the accounting department
• Responsible for local, state, and federal tax compliance and reporting
• Establish and implement short and long-range accounting department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
• Help develop and support short and long-term operational strategies
• Hire, train and retain skilled accounting staff
• Review business trends and make necessary recommendations to executive teams
• Partner with the CEO on numerous projects
• Performs other job-related duties as requested

Education, Experience and Skills:

• A minimum of Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance. CPA is highly preferred
• 5 years of progressive accounting, senior level accounting or finance manager experience is required
• 5 years of financial controller experience
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
• Transportation industry experience is highly desired
• Excellent proficiency with Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, presentations, analytics, and database
• Demonstrated ability to manage, lead, and build process improvements
• Great communications skills: ability to explain budgeting and financial information in plain terms
• Ability to start from scratch on a wide range of initiatives with minimal guidance
