Job Description:


SUMMARY

Provide support for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Research and Engineering (R&E) Directorate and its divisions and or branches by performing database management and support (Oracle and Microsoft SQL) which includes the installation, configuration, upgrade, and migration services for all DHA R&E and its subordinates’ database servers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage back-end maintenance schedules and SQL Agent jobs.
  • Perform database synchronization between Primary/Secondary replicas in AAG environments.
  • Performs Back-Up and Recovery for SQL Server Databases in Always-On-Availability Group (AAG) environments.
  • Creates Job schedules for database back-ups.
  • Perform upgrades and migration on SQL Server databases.
  • Work in an IPT structure and be well versed in virtual meetings and working groups.
  • Ensure the quality is consistent and meets both external and internal requirements.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Coordinate the data administration technical function for both data warehouse development and maintenance.
  • Facilitate change control, problem management, and communication among data architects, programmers, analysts, and engineers.
  • Establish and enforce processes to ensure a consistent, well managed, and well-integrated data warehouse infrastructure.
  • Analyze and identify data and metadata requirements.
  • Assist with defining user requirements and database design specifications.
  • Assist with designing, implementing, and supporting data warehousing requirements. Implement business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technologies.
  • Provide product support and maintenance of the DHA R&E’s databases.
  • Perform database design and implementation.
  • Prepare/implement data verification and testing methods for the databases.
  • Provide Database Administration patch management support.
  • Implement Database security to ensure authentication, authorization, and auditing occur in accordance with DoD and federal policy requirements.
  • Provide Performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Conduct Troubleshooting as needed to provide problem resolution.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Limited primarily to supervision of IT/IM staff supporting DHA in daily tasks and performance.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • DOD 8570.01-M IAT level II certification required such as: Security CE as well as appropriate 8570.001 M Computing Environment certification.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or five (5) years direct relevant experience is acceptable in lieu of a bachelor’s degree. (Preferred degree areas include Information Technology, Business, or a related field.)
  • Minimum of three (3) years serving in a management position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance. (U.S. Citizenship required)
  • Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.

  • Work independently with minimal direct supervision.
  • Coordinate several activities at once, quickly analyzes and resolves specific problems, and cope with deadlines effectively.
  • Contribute to the fostering of positive team morale; be a team player.
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment and manage competing demands while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Proficient with MS Office suite of products and business communication tools such as MS Teams.
  • Detailed understanding of all levels of IT support and development.

TRAVEL

The expected travel time is less than 10%.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy.

Driving, with or without accommodation, may be required when traveling for training and/or short occasional amounts of local driving. The expected driving time is less than 10%.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crouching, and lifting weights up to 30 pounds. Frequently uses hands/fingers for manipulation of keyboard and mouse. Seeing up close. WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed remotely or in a professional office setting including the normal office equipment (computer, fax machines, copier). Employee will be exposed to a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities if there is a requirement to be in an office and not working remotely.

WORK SCHEDULE

40 hours per week. May be required to work additional hours as needed to complete assignment or project. May require flexible work schedule.
