Kansas Orthopaedic Center PA is Hiring a Medical Coder (on-site) Near Wichita, KS

Kansas Orthopaedic Center is seeking an on-site outpatient coder for our high-volume orthopaedic practice.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides appropriate procedure and diagnosis codes for office visits, therapy visits and outpatient surgeries; completes charges in electronic charge capture software.
  • Provides assistance to providers with coding updates and/or changes and education.
  • Assists billing office staff in a timely manner with coding related denials, questions, and education.
  • Performs coding analysis, conducts audits of patient charts for coding assessment and compliance purposes, and provides related results and education to providers.
  • Sets up rules in electronic charge capture software to catch common coding issues. Edits rules regarding coding changes and insurance rules as needed.
  • Runs surgery report and enters global dates, reviews ABNs and adds modifier to charges, removes appointments not needed in electronic charge capture software, and works radiology audits when received.
  • Runs on hold report in electronic charge capture software at the end of each month and resolves any that are outstanding.
  • Maintains education requirements for credentials.

Required Licensure and/or Certification:

  • CPC or CCS-P certification

Required Skills, Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate's Degree in Health Information Technology preferred
  • Two years insurance/billing and outpatient coding experience, outpatient surgical coding experience preferred
  • Must be knowledgeable of insurance payors
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and communicate (orally and written) effectively
  • Interpersonal skills to interact with other staff and outside contacts
  • Good customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Windows based applications and familiarity with billing and coding software
  • Basic mathematical skills
