The Kansas Department for Children and Families currently has an Adoption Specialist position that is base negotiable. This position makes $17.39 / hour.

As an Adoption Specialist you will:

• Work with Regional Staff Attorneys to ensure children who are referred for adoption are legally free for adoption; receive all referrals for adoption assistance and complete a thorough assessment of all adoption assistance referrals from the community provider for compliance to state and federal policy and law.
• Assess for child special needs and ability of the potential adoptive family to meet child’s special needs, alert supervisor and/or foster care administration to potential problems and concerns, negotiate and execute contractual agreements with prospective adoptive parents; and receive all requests for renegotiations from adoptive parents, completing assessment of changes in child special needs or family circumstances, and executing renegotiated contractual agreements.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Four-year degree in a Human Services or Behavioral Science field of study, or education determined relevant by the agency. Valid Driver’s License must be maintained throughout employment.

Preferred Qualifications: One or more of the following:

• Bachelor’s in Social Work (Licensed Social Worker), Master’s in Professional Counseling (Licensed Professional Counselor), Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy (Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist).
• Licensed Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB) professional as determined relevant by the agency
• A minimum or 2 – years of work experience in Children and Family Services.
