POSITION SUMMARY

The Prevention Coordinator-Harm Reduction is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operations and delivery of harm reduction services by managing the syringe exchange program (or the Xchange). The Coordinator recruits, coordinates, and supervises volunteers and students who provide harm reduction services and is responsible for inventory management and overall program functioning.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages the daily operations, staffing, supplies, and data entry of the Xchange Program.
  • Recruits, trains, coordinates, and supervises program volunteers and students who provide Xchange services.
  • Manages supplies inventory for the Xchange which includes tracking, ordering, vetting vendors, and organizing supplies for distribution.
  • Provides Xchange services to clients in the absence of volunteer coverage.
  • Maintains subject-matter expertise in harm reduction services to ensure that implemented policies and procedures are the most up to date harm reduction standards and are inclusive of all Xchange program participants.
  • Supports KC CARE Health Center in harm reduction representation, Xchange information, and other representative outlets including but not limited to community meetings, organization presentations, and conferences.
  • Works in collaboration with Prevention Manager to assist with the development of grant proposals, specifically around Xchange and HCV testing data.
  • Coordinates updates for program staff, volunteers, and community agencies on internal Xchange policies and procedures as well as external factors that could affect the function of the Xchange program.
  • Ensures that Xchange policies and procedures are being followed by staff and volunteers and all printed materials (STD/STI information, community referrals, overdose education, etc.) are available for staff and volunteers to distribute.
  • Works with the Health Center’s Evaluation Department to efficiently maintain all database programs associated with Xchange and Hepatitis C prevention services provided
  • Coordinates with internal partners, including Peers, HIV Case Management, Behavioral Health, Clinical Services, and Marketing to ensure strong interdepartmental collaboration
  • Collaborates with Counseling and Testing Services (CATS) Prevention Coordinator to train volunteers and students in rapid HCV and HIV testing and risk reduction.
  • Collaborates with Health Center staff to coordinate Hepatitis C testing services including outreach testing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, health education or related field
  • One year experience coordinating programs
  • Experience with or education background of harm reduction principles and able to coordinate in such a way that facilitates inclusion of people who are directly and indirectly affected by substance use

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience with program management
  • Six months experience in healthcare
  • HIV/AIDS as well as HCV prevention experience with the priority population

Working Conditions

General working conditions are in a healthcare facility. As such, there is a potential exposure to virus, disease, and infection from patients while performing the duties of this job. May experience traumatic situations including psychiatric traumatized and deceased patients. Travel may be expected to community meetings, client homes, or other agencies.

Physical Demands

While performing duties of this job, employees are regularly required to set, walk, and stand; talk and hear; both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to finger, handle, feel, or operate standard office or clinical equipment; reach with hands and arms; and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read, analyze, and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve non-routine and complex problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; work under intensive deadlines with frequent interruptions; and interact with others outside of their department.
