Junior Achievement of Southern CA is Hiring a Marketing Associate Near Los Angeles, CA

The position offers 12 days vacation PTO, 7 sick days, 12 holidays plus traditionally two additional holiday weeks during the Los Angeles Unified School District’s winter break. 

Position Description

Junior Achievement of Southern California (JA) seeks a proactive, exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and enthusiastic Marketing Associate (MA) to provide direct support to the Sr Director of Integrated Marketing and Communications (Sr Director). The MA is responsible for several important design, creative, editorial, administrative and fundraising functions. The MA will manage a rapid flow of work, handling many daily tasks spanning multiple projects, some long term and some short term, and must be extremely personable and professional with internal and external constituents. The MA must be a reliable and creative self-starter and communicate effectively and transparently with the Sr Director on projects and tasks. The MA will be a member of the Development team and participate in the development of fundraising campaigns, solutions, and support. The MA organizes and coordinates marketing and communications project and outreach details, with tracking and filing photographs and digital assets, templates, and social media posts. The MA also assists with design, editing, sizing, and creative efforts to complete assigned projects and contribute to the completion of organizational marketing materials. This multi-tasking and varied support for the Sr Director helps ensure that the organization has the marketing resources and support it needs to effectively promote its work and engage funders and participants in impacting our Southern California communities.

This is a full-time in-office position. Some evening and/or weekend work will be occasionally required.

Primary Responsibilities

Organization and Project Management for Marketing and Communications:

  • Organize and report on progress of tasks, details, communications, project plans and project calendars to support the Sr Director.
  • Maintain and curate a well-organized repository of marketing assets.
  • Develop and manage a photo/imagery library.
  • Maintain a well-organized repository of brand guidelines and resources.

Creative / Content Creation:

  • Create, design, size, edit and complete new projects and routine updates for digital assets, templates, social media content and other marketing materials.
  • Contribute creative ideas to enhance our marketing efforts.
  • Assist staff in writing, layout, and design of other materials as needed.

Social Media Management:

  • Develop and manage social media calendar, including JA outreach and awareness goals and funding partner social media requirements.
  • Collaborate with the programs team to ensure all funder social posting requirements are met.
  • Create, proof, load and activate social media posts per the calendar.
  • Develop, create and execute content plans for various social media platforms, including TikTok and Snapchat, with a targeted "voice" for various social media platforms.
  • Engage with influencers and cultivate follower relationships.
  • Interact with followers, generate leads, and create paid ads.
  • Monitor trending topics and create engaging on-mission organic video content, attend programmatic events and activities to capture relevant video and photos for projects.

Website Maintenance:

  • Routine edits to WordPress website within template and website guidelines. Act as the point of contact with professional web developers for substantial changes.
  • Ensure website content is up-to-date, including staff and board updates, special events, and blog posts.

Email Marketing:

  • Maintain a calendar and initiate steps in project plans for blogs and newsletter communications.
  • Assist in drafting, proofing, sizing, and logistical coordination with database manager to execute email and newsletter communications.
  • Monitor and update email addresses across defined segments and platforms.
  • Collaborate on mass email and newsletter communications with other department teams as needed.

Media Relations and PR:

  • Research and maintain a list of local media outlet contacts.
  • Assist in drafting, proofing, and coordination of email, outreach and engagement for media and public relations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the team development of fundraising campaigns and initiatives.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as needed.

Mission Alignment:

  • Passion and commitment for JA mission to empower youth to succeed through programs that provide financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship education, with an emphasis on low-income and underrepresented student populations.
  • Must have ability to keep mission and needs and perspectives of the communities we serve central to natural flow of outreach and messaging.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Experience implementing website posts, edits, changes as needed. Prior experience with WordPress preferred.
  • Experience working in Canva, or other similar graphic programs. Ability to create, edit and update graphic content as directed.
  • Photography, videography and some editing skills a plus!
  • Active on social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, adept at management of those accounts.
  • Media savvy, including the ability to write and re-purpose press releases, articles, media advisories and guest commentaries for local news outlets and blogs.
  • Familiarity with audience segmented communications, ability to work with CRM database and database manager to set email communications lists.
  • Ability to engage quickly, persistently and with positive attitude in activities that support the needs of the organization.
  • Experience with and/or ability to learn and use CRM database, Microsoft TEAMS and Outlook actively and productively in daily, regular workflows. Familiarity with WordPress Content Management Systems (CMS) to keep website.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds and work at computer for extended periods of time.
  • Position requires high capacity for visual perceptive skills.
  • Must have a CA driver license, and have reliable transportation that is California insured, for work-related travel throughout the area. (mileage reimbursed).
  • Must have reliable internet at home or other safe, remote location, to allow for hybrid work arrangements.
  • JA SoCal requires all staff to be fully vaccinated, with exceptions allowed for medical reasons or sincerely held religious beliefs.
