Senior Manufacturing EngineerSummary/PurposePlans, directs and coordinates technical support for the Machining/Grind manufacturing processes. Primary objects are improvements in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost. Essential Duties and Accountabilities: Develops and evaluates manufacturing methodsUse a “hands on” approach to develop and implement solutions to manufacturing problems and improvements in manufacturing methods that result in improved quality and increased productivity while maintaining a safe working environmentAnalysis and troubleshooting of production equipment based on technical drawings and mechanical evaluationIdentify, evaluate and recommend changes or improvements in operational process, procedures and equipment and provide analysis to support these changesWorks concurrently with Engineering to identify repeat issues to increase production processesConfers with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methodsExecute time studies and perform gap analysis using Lean Six Sigma tools (or similar methods)Leads efforts to lower the cost of manufacturing by eliminating waste in both manpower and materialsExecute improvements that consider ergonomics and human factor engineeringCollects cycle time data on tooling and automated equipment; evaluates overall capacity and identifies bottlenecks throughout the manufacturing processEstimates production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisionsConfers with management, engineering and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processesApplies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential including machine capability studies, etc.Performs a variety of engineering assignments in work measurement for establishment of standardsStrong understanding of engineering processes and the ability to convert requirements into manufacturing instructionsProvides clear description of tooling / consumables needed; creates and maintains (BOM) for accuracyProvides support management with Kaizens, JIT projects and shop floor management activities to achieve task reductionsSupport 5-S, Kaizen Team and Koyo Production Systems, TS16949 and ISO14000 efforts throughout the plant Supervisory Responsibilities:This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft OfficeStrong background utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools and methodologies (or similar methods)Skilled in understanding statistics and using statistical software to evaluate and summarize dataDemonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and prioritiesDemonstrated success in leading cross-functional teamsStrong organizational skillsStrong ability to work in teams with a collaborative interpersonal styleExhibits strong analytical, problem solving, negotiation, organizational and teaching skillsInteracts effectively with individuals and groups inside and outside the organizationExcellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with people at all levels Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering preferredPrefer 5-7 years’ experience in manufacturing environmentHands on experience working in an automated machining/Grinding environmentBearings experience preferred Experience with CAD will be a plusHands-on tool use and mechanical systems knowledge preferred Work Environment/Physical Demands: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
