Financial Analyst

POSITION SUMMARY

This role is a key partner to the business. Uniquely, this person can take, sort, package, and digest complex data into a simple, clearly understood package. The candidate is an appropriate communicator with the C-Level and with our less financially conversant field operations management. Provides financial analytical support throughout the company. Requires financial planning & analysis skills, power Excel user, highly experienced with business intelligence tools, knowledge of accounting principles and ability to work closely with finance and operations to monitor company performance.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators (KPI’s) including all areas of revenue, cost of sales, expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends, and analyzing causes of unexpected variance.
  • Prepare quarterly and monthly financial reports; dashboards; and ad-hoc reporting and analysis.
  • Work with the company’s accounting systems and business intelligence tools.
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support budgeting/forecasting and strategic initiatives.
  • Analyze financial information and reports to provide accurate and timely financial assessments to management for decision-making purposes.
  • Prepare KPIs that all stakeholders can use to improve performance.
  • Support activities throughout the company – accounting, operations, sales, and administration staff.

Build budgeting and forecasting models:

  • Work closely with operations to develop annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Track monthly performance; communicate results with operating and sales staff.

Monthly reporting:

  • Maintain the company’s management reporting database (Excel workbook).
  • Research and explain variances to budget, forecasts, and prior year.
  • Develop and maintain Key Performance Indicators.

External Communications:

  • Prepare material for Lenders and Sureties.
  • Monthly reporting package.
  • Bonding reports.

Qualifications


SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

  • A minimum of bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration; or related field with additional relevant work experience in the performance of the key responsibilities listed above.

Experience:

  • 2 years of work experience in a similar role with project-based accounting.
  • 2 years’ experience using Business Intelligence tools, including query tools to create data warehouses. Strongly prefer Microsoft Power BI and Power Query capabilities to extract, package and analyze data from eSub, Sage, and HWIP.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to the supporting financial systems. Must be a power user in Excel.
  • Highly detailed and organized. Driven to make sure data is consistent/ties throughout various systems and reports.
  • Experience preparing budgets and forecasts.
  • Experience with project accounting, including percent of completion (POC), cost to complete (CTC), and other project related reporting.
  • Able to interact well with operations, sales, and external stakeholders (general contractors, vendors). Extensive interaction with Project Management Office (PMO), President, and Chief Financial Officer.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles relating to budgeting, scheduling, tracking of actual/committed costs, forecasting, and financial principles. Work experience implementing those principles.
  • Experience with an accounting software system (preferably Sage but not required).

Computer Skills:

  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office. Must be an Excel power user.
  • Extensive experience using business intelligence tools, including query tools to create data warehouses. Strongly prefer Power BI and Power Query capabilities. Other potentially similar business intelligence software platforms may include Tableau or others.

CertificationsLicenses:

  • None required.

  • Able to work closely with the company’s operating and sales staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
