Job Summary: The SVP Chief Nursing Officer establishes and implements the model for the delivery of patient care and achievement of quality initiatives; oversees direct patient care activities and development of clinical staff; develops and implements programs to improve operational effectiveness, patient satisfaction, clinical excellence, and provider interaction. As a senior member of the executive team and in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer, participates in decisions impacting the facility and operations and establishing evidence-based standards and practices. Develops and manages a budget for clinical operations, makes staffing decisions, and ensures the delivery of patient care is consistent and compliant with all applicable regulatory guidelines or requirements.

Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:

  1. Provides leadership, supervision, guidance, and development for nursing and support staff, articulating and demonstrating an expectation for continuous quality improvement.
  2. Maintains a working knowledge of current clinical practice and the regulatory requirements affecting that practice.
  3. Establishes and enhances a culture of evidence-based decision-making in clinical and management initiatives. Articulates and models an emphasis on patient quality and safety.
  4. Establishes and supports a professional governance structure and process. Maintains strong, credible relationships with medical staff, develops a community presence, and builds connections with academic institutions.
  5. Functions as a senior member of the hospital operations and system leadership teams, serving in an advisory capacity to applicable staff.
  6. In collaboration with leadership team members, directs and provides oversight regarding the strategic development, implementation, and maintenance of strong, comprehensive clinical and/or operational services and programs that meet system-wide organizational growth initiatives and the needs of patient populations in the community.
  7. Fosters the development and implementation of workforce initiatives. Leads and influences change at the system level.
  8. Promotes financial stewardship and clinical excellence for the facility in both operational and capital acquisition processes. Allocates financial, information, and human capital for improvement activities, ensuring the efficient delivery of cost-effective services to patients, physicians, and hospital departments.
  9. Establishes performance measures, assesses and evaluates operations, and works with department Leaders to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services.
  10. Continually assesses and evaluates patient, staff, and provider satisfaction; Implements initiatives for quality and performance improvement.
  11. Effectively represents patient care/nursing perspective to governing bodies and external audiences on behalf of the organization.
  12. Works with the COO and other executives concerning the acquisition of equipment, facilities, new construction, and changes in space allocation.
