Functional Family Therapy

Functional Family Therapy is an empirical evidence- based home and community service program that targets children aged 10-18 with emotional and behavioral problems to decrease out- of- home placement, incarceration, and maladaptive behaviors. FFT Therapists receive extensive training to implement and provide FFT services while adhering to the FFT model. Journey CCS will provide services in region 9 consisting of (Tangipahoa, St. Tammany, Livingston).

Job Description

Education Requirement: Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, or other relevant human service profession, with one years’ experience providing children and family services. Persons with a related bachelor’s degree and significant (more than 2 years) clinical experience in treating mental health disorders in child and adolescents and experience in children and family services may also qualify at the discretion of the agency.

Specific Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Adherence and utilization of the FFT model in service delivery
  • Required to carry a caseload of families, 10-12 full-time and 5-6 part- time, providing services anywhere from 8 to 26 weeks depending on individual family needs and progress
  • Meet with families weekly to obtain face to face productivity hours, 16 minimum for full-time and 8 minimum.
  • Requires flexibility in scheduling sessions with families at times that are convenient for the family which may include working evenings and weekends.
  • Attend and actively participate in weekly consultation on Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 1:0 pm at the office in Ponchatoula, LA
  • Attend and actively participate in initial and ongoing FFT training as determined by training schedule
  • FFT therapist must complete all service- related documentation and job responsibilities in accordance with governing regulations, agency policy and procedures, and FFT evidence-based practice standards
  • Complete progress notes and necessary documentation for each visit
  • Responds in a positive and respectful manner to diversity, among the agency’s service population and staff
  • Collaborate with all relevant systems and key stakeholders

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Ability to be flexible and willingness to work with families in their own homes
  • Ability to maintain calendar and scheduled appointments
  • Self- started with strong organization skills with the ability to work independently, as well as contribute to a team.
  • Strong interpersonal/ communication skills
  • Be knowledgeable of and adept at producing effective, clinical documentation of every contact with the recipient.
  • Ability to provide strength-based, supportive therapeutic services with adherence to the FFT model.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability
  • Ability to deal constructively with stress, uses appropriate client etiquette in dealing with clients, families, and inquiries.
  • Commitment to empowering families to solve their own problems
  • Belief in the capacity of people to grow and change
  • Be able, or willing to learn, to use computer or laptop to complete detailed documentation
  • Ability performs job with efficiency necessary to complete responsibilities within established timeframes
  • Ability to turn in notes on time according to policy. Document all “no shows,” and communicate all difficulties contacting clients with appropriate office staff.
  • Offers and accepts constructive feedback and responds appropriately to direction.
