Journey Center for Safety and Healing is Hiring an Art Therapist Near Cleveland, OH

To provide art therapy and facilitate therapeutic groups to youth and adult victims of domestic violence at Journey Center’s Emergency Shelter.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Assist youth advocates in planning group and individual activities in the Emergency Shelter
  2. Provide and facilitate support groups with children according to structure and design of the youth program
  3. Demonstrate health adult/child interactions; Provide instruction in parenting skills and conflict resolution as needed
  4. Participate, as requested, in overall agency planning for policies and procedures pertaining to children and families
  5. Make appropriate referrals to supportive community services, including reporting child abuse to Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services, when necessary
  6. Monitor safety of youth communal space (the activity room, art room, backyard, etc.) including, but not limited to youth participating in group sessions, toys, and physical space
  7. Foster communication with adult clients in regards to their children
  8. Communicate and debrief following group sessions with youth advocates and shelter leadership, as needed
  9. Foster guidance and support to Journey Center volunteers involved in youth program
  10. Exhibit knowledge of childhood development and compassion in work with children who have experienced domestic violence and/or child abuse
  11. Develop and maintain case records in agency database that document services provided to clients in accordance with agency standards and funders
  12. Attend monthly youth program meetings
  13. Demonstrate strong team work capability and work in a constructive manner with all other staff members

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Respect, understand, and promote Journey Center’s mission, vision, values, and goals
  2. Complete agency orientation and training to meet job requirements
  3. Assumes other responsibilities and duties as directed or assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Master’s Degree in Art Therapy required
  2. Experience in direct service with early childhood, pre-adolescent, and adolescent clients required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics

  1. Knowledge and compassion towards working with adults who have experienced domestic violence and/or child abuse
  2. Computer skills with word processing, database management, e-mail, fax, Windows application capabilities
  3. Ability to make sensitive and insightful observations of clients to determine an appropriate course of intervention
  4. Ability to address crisis situations which require prompt decision and action
  5. Knowledge of safety issues
  6. Knowledge of social, emotional, and personal aspects of domestic violence
  7. Working knowledge of community resources available for adult/child victims of domestic violence
  8. Ability to perform job duties with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment
  9. Thorough knowledge of rules, regulations, functions, procedures, organization, and policies governing operations of Journey Center
  10. Ability to analyze problems and develop plans of action/correction
  11. Ability to organize work, engage in a variety of tasks, and consistently meet deadlines
  12. Ability to demonstrate sound judgment and possess outstanding interpersonal skills
  13. Emotional maturity, stability, personal integrity, and resourcefulness
  14. Good written and verbal communication skills
  15. Dependable, reliable, and able to show up for duties in a timely manner
  16. Commitment to child abuse and domestic violence prevention
  17. Experience in and commitment to building and supporting trauma informed organizations committed to equity, inclusion, and advocacy
  18. Maintain a positive attitude
