Job Title: Fiber Machine Operator

Job Purpose: As a Fiber Machine Operator, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining several types of machinery to ensure smooth and efficient fiber production processes. Your attention to detail, technical expertise, and adherence to safety protocols will be essential to ensure the quality and timely completion of our products.

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Location: Onsite- Monticello Location

Department: Operations

Classification: Non-exempt, Full Time, Operations

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works toward a development path to become an advanced or senior fiber machine operator (capable of running all jobs on the fiber line meeting production and quality standards).
  • Able to back up coworkers in their absence.
  • Train new employees or existing employees as needed.
  • Continuously develops technical knowledge working with production and maintenance team to understand the process and being aware of technical and safety requirements.
  • This position will also involve proper set up of materials and equipment to produce cut fiber and rolls that meet customer specifications and company standards.
  • Read and understand instructions, labels, and production schedules.
  • Communicate effectively and work well with others as part of an efficient manufacturing team.
  • Pull raw fiber material to load to bale opener machines.
  • Properly label all fiber finished material for future use.
  • Conduct quality checks to ensure products are within customer specifications.
  • Perform housekeeping on equipment and surrounding work areas.
  • Operate the line in accordance with the daily production schedule.
  • Monitor equipment to prevent downtime while maintaining upkeep.
  • Maintain record of fiber usage for inventory.
  • Receives and executes on information from Fiber supervisor about: products on the production schedule, production/crew schedule, raw materials and recipes, quality specifications, safety and environmental guidelines, manufacturing trial needs, and manufacturing process changes and improvements.
  • Informs the Fiber supervisor and maintenance about product quality problems, equipment problems, manufacturing efficiency suggestions, manufacturing trials, budgetary review, problems with personnel, machine downtime, work orders to request repairs from maintenance, safety concerns and education/training needs.
  • Informs Shift Supervisors and Maintenance Supervisor/Manager about: machine setup changes, machine shut downs, coaching/training needs, and process related information.
  • Continuously collaborates with safety team, management team and employees to identify and improve upon safe work practices, accident avoidance and daily safety awareness.
  • Under the direction of the Fiber Supervisor and Operations Management team, assists with the development and improvement of manufacturing processes and procedures to include but not limited to machine efficiency, labor efficiency, lean manufacturing, and GRS certification/documentation.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • No prior experience necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  • Proven experience as a Machine Operator or in a similar role.
  • Solid knowledge of machine operation and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to solve routine issues using the resources readily available.

Working Conditions

Environment

  • This position works exclusively in a factory production floor environment with exposure to typical factory hazards such as loud noises, heat, and cold.

Essential physical requirements

  • This position requires physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials when required.
  • Employees performing the tasks essential to this position will regularly be expected to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • This position may require employees to work overtime, weekends, and nights depending on production needs.
