FUNCTION:

Under the direction and supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction and the Director of Teaching and Learning, the coordinator of Family and Community Engagement is responsible for the overall implementation of Family and Community district and school programs, after-school club and events, professional learning, and promoting student readiness with the district and its community stakeholders. The Family and Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for implementing board policies and the family engagement framework from the Illinois State Board of Education with fidelity.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. M.A. or M.S. in Education
  2. Professional Educator License with General Administration Endorsement
  3. Advanced Work in Family Engagement and Parent Leadership is preferred
  4. Minimum of Five Years Teaching Experience
  5. Knowledgeable of Effective School Research, ISBE's School Improvement Process, Family Engagement Framework, and impactful Adult Professional Learning methods
  6. Demonstrate skills in Leadership, Administration, and Human Relations
  7. Experience in developing and implementing family and community engagement for a school district is preferred
  8. Bilingual preferred
AUTHORITIES:
  1. Provide caregiver education opportunities based on the family engagement framework.
  2. Manages professional learning opportunities for staff and stakeholders based on the Standards for Professional Learning
  3. Support new teachers in Professional Learning and Effective Instructional practices for their students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Develop and monitor the Joliet Public School District 86 Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) program by utilizing the ISBE Family Engagement Framework.
  2. Develop family and community engagement events and resources.
  3. Execute district F.A.C.E. events and learning opportunities for families and caregivers.
  4. Support communication with families in their home language.
  5. Outreach to the community early learning centers to promote IL Early Learning Standards including professional learning to caregivers.
  6. Support kindergarten transition activities.
  7. Create and manage the district family and community engagement events calendars.
  8. Lead development and implementation of parent education opportunities.
  9. Participates in the development of research-based activities designed to promote positive and supportive relations between the community and the schools.
  10. Support parent and community organizations.
  11. Maintain a commitment to ongoing professional learning for all stakeholders.
  12. Enhance communication with families and community agencies.
  13. Monitor state and federal family engagement policies.
  14. Attend monthly parent liaison network meetings.
  15. Participate in district, school, and community engagement events.
  16. Collaborate with specialized parent groups (early childhood, bilingual advisory council, parent-teacher associations, etc.).
  17. Assist with and implement any additional duties/tasks as assigned by Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction or Designee.

  1. Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
  2. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback.
  3. Ability to compose correspondence, reports, and/or other required written materials.
  4. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information/ data.
  5. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions, inquiries, and/or complaints.
  6. Displays courtesy, tact, and respect when dealing with others.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  1. Ability to perform basic math using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals consistent with the duties of this position.
REASONING ABILITY:
  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions and information furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Ability to identify and define problem(s), collect and analyze data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
