LOCATION: DSD Early Learning Program (ELP)
REPORT TO: Designated Administrator
QUALIFICATIONS:
Holds high school transcript or equivalency, along with one of the following:
An associate degree or higher with a GPA of 2.0 or higher from an accredited institution, or
Sixty college credits from an accredited institution, or
A score of 459 or higher on the ParaPro Test
Has strong communication skills; writing and speaking in English
Has strong communication skills; communicating in ASL; required
Has experience working with children in varied settings; preferred
Has experience working with children with multiple disabilities; preferred
Has working knowledge of behavior management procedures; preferred
Has knowledge of assistive technology and accommodations for special education students; preferred
Assist with self-help training (student transfer, toileting, diapering, grooming, feeding etc.) if required by assignment
Satisfactorily pass Safety Techniques and Personal Restraint Techniques assessments, if required by assignment
Satisfactorily pass CPR and First Aid training, if required by assignment

Instructional Paraprofessional- DSD Early Learning Program Position Description: The person in the position of Paraprofessional at the Early Learning Program (ELP) report to the Statewide Programs for the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind has the responsibility for assisting in the establishment and maintenance of an environment conducive to learning. Following are some of the major tasks that the paraprofessional may be expected to perform:
Responsibilities:
Complete a wide variety of instructional assistance activities indigenous to the assignment (academic, vocational, job coaching, deaf blind, specials, specialists) to reinforce the physical, social, emotional and intellectual skills of the students
Assist in emergency situations in classroom and with school nurse
Participate in in-service activities, workshops, and staff and para meetings
Communicate in ASL with students and staff at the appropriate level of understanding
Assist in a variety of activities for special needs students as assigned, including dressing, toileting, and feeding
Substitute for teachers or other paraprofessionals, as requested
Perform other related duties as assigned
