The Treasury, Taxation & Vehicles (TTV) department is looking for a Recording Maintenance Supervisor in the Land Records division. The Land Records division is responsible for recording and indexing all land record documents according to statutory requirements. Job duties include:

  • Supervises the daily operations of the recording and filing office for all legal documents affecting real and personal property in Johnson County; responsible for maintaining a complete, accurate and permanent record of every document pertaining to the conveyance and encumbrance of land within the county; maintains permanent land records, retains them in archival form, and makes them constantly accessible to the public; enforces state law regarding ownership of property by rejecting for chain of title accuracy
  • Supervises the processes and teams associated with key Land Records systems; creates and distributes reports from the systems to interpret and organize information; identifies system performance issues and works with the team and vendor(s) to implement appropriate enhancements; conducts system testing related to the implementation of system updates; communicates with the vendor(s), facilitates training for the team, and oversees peripheral hardware.
  • Recruits, hires and trains new and existing Land Records staff; meets individually with staff to coach and mentor and assign duties and responsibilities; cultivates a positive work environment and develops constructive relationships with colleagues, other County departments and agencies and external taxing authorities; works directly with the leadership team to address and resolve problems or inefficiencies; Creates and maintains training program content, materials, and manuals for new and current staff on statutes, rules and regulations, and departmental processes and procedures. Maintains working knowledge of State law and regulations for the responsibilities of the Register of Deeds functions.
  • Supervises the daily operations of the front counter serving walk-in customers; opens and closes the office according to safety and security protocols including the management and balancing of cash, check, and credit card transactions to avoid loss; encourages positive customer service interactions with the public and fellow departments by ensuring inquiries are answered accurately and timely.
  • Collaborates with leadership to maintain and strengthen the functions of the Register of Deeds and Land Records division; supports the staff and customers by maintaining visibility and accountability in the office; performs duties that have department, county, and statewide impact on land records services. investigates and resolves complex issues and grievances; addresses inconsistencies through coaching, training, motivating, and mentoring.
Job Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent with minimum of five years relevant experience is required.

Associate’s degree in business administration, accounting, or public administration is preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
