Johnson College is Hiring a Special Program Coordinator Near Scranton, PA

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position coordinates many components within programs offered through the college and provides the first point of interaction for the campus community. The coordinator facilitates the many activities within special programs offered and provides support to the department. Models concepts of outstanding customer service and utilizes effective communication skills in providing assistance and accurate information to students, instructors, staff, and community members. Provides support for clerical and administrative tasks. Assists in support of special projects and other duties, as assigned. Assists in the continuous improvement and execution of processes and procedures that ensure quality service and compliance with school procedures and college-wide policies. Employs problem-solving and conflict resolution skills appropriately.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Participate and be an active member in assigned campus committee(s)
  • Maintain and update program participant records.
  • Provide accurate information of degree requirements, academic policies, regulations, and college procedures.
  • Attend trainings to remain current on college policies/procedures and best practices in advising and support of student success.
  • Counsel and advise students on academic related issues, which affect their progression toward a degree objective.
  • Collaborate with Industry Partners for industry visits, guest speakers, etc.
  • Coordinate and track Work Study for students, internships, and clinical experience
  • Responsible for teaching Career Readiness course for RISE
  • Purchase and organize certification exams
  • Create/review/interpret reports and other information, making decisions and applying sound judgement in complex situations.
  • Collaborate with Enrollment and Student Advising Center on student progress.
  • Organize and track student/employer surveys for RISE
  • Provide quality student service as demonstrated in patience, tact, courtesy, flexibility, and responsiveness to student needs.
  • Assist students with career preparation activities, including but not limited to College Career Fair, Mock Interviews, and Job Shadowing.
  • Assist students with career portfolio and obtaining clearances
  • Assist students with job placement opportunities.
  • Serve as an advocate for students and consult with faculty, staff, and other departments on issues associate with student academic performance.
  • Purchase and coordinate program participant activities.
  • Present information to groups ranging from 10 people to 100
  • Track career updates and follow progress
  • Maintain contact with employed participants for two years post-completion to assist in program evaluation and service coordination.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ideal candidate will have (2) years of experience in an academic setting to include one year of experience disseminating academic information and reviewing/evaluating student records.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information to assist in preserving the academic integrity of the institution.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Sound counseling techniques with sensitivity and discretion to effectively advise students of various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds in the resolution of problems.
  • Ability to interpret, recommend and implement academic policies, procedures, and regulations as related to academic advising.
  • Demonstrated ability in making quality decisions and judgments in analyzing and evaluating student data and academic records.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities and/or projects.
  • Ability to multi-task with demanding time-frames, and pay attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Microsoft Office skills

EDUCATION:

Associate degree from a regionally accredited college or university

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience working independently under general direction in a high volume, fast paced, team-oriented environment, exercising good judgment, creativity and initiative in performance of job responsibilities in higher education.
  • Experience working with co-curricular programs and teaching is strongly preferred.
  • At least 1-2 years’ experience in a higher education environment, preferred.
  • The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year experience working in a career preparation type role.
