POSITION SUMMARY:
Leads Junior/Senior data scientists in comparative analyses and integration of large and complex data sets across multiple
studies and sources, including interfacing with technology infrastructure to support biomedical research in various initiatives
across the organization. Outcomes from dedicated analytic projects should contribute to the growth and expansion of
predictive analytics on a local and national level. The lead data scientist should have a demonstrated track record of
contributions to peer-reviewed journals and presentations at local and national conferences and should serve to lead the
center in cutting edge research. The candidate will represent the Center for Pediatric Data Science and Analytic Methodology
at prominent national and international conferences. This position should also serve to educate Johns Hopkins All Children’s
researchers and clinicians about the use and applications of data science in clinical practice.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Lead Junior/Senior data scientists in the responsibilities listed below:
a Analysis and modeling of data for single and multi-center projects to make substantive contributions to the
field of predictive analytics.
b Engage in pre-processing of data (Extract-Transform-Load; ETL) to address missing data, potential
noise/bias, and other unstructured data attributes.
c Develop mathematical and machine learning models for prediction and classification of critical
physiological events to efficiently and accurately describe potential associations that may exist within the
data.
d Analyze data using sophisticated data mining algorithms and methodologies to discover potential patterns
and trends that may exist within the data.
e Implement, deploy and monitor developed machine-based learning algorithms to examine streams of data
using state of the art technologies.
f Contribute to internal and external research proposals for regional and national funding agencies to
contribute to sustainable research goals per JHACH strategic plans.
g Contribute to the initiatives related to the growth and sustainability of predictive analytics at JHACH to
facilitate research specific mission within the JHACH strategic plan.
2. Serves as the expert on cutting-edge data science methods and integrates this into the team.
3. Contributes to a motivated work environment by encouraging collaboration to achieve JHACH strategic goals.

5. Execute projects and manager external/internal collaborators/customers autonomously.
6. Ability to collect project requirements from external/internal customers and parse to an actionable plan.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• PhD in data science, analytics, informatics, statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience with core analytic methodologies (e.g. regression, classification, clustering,
matrix factorization, natural language processing, decision trees, support vector machines, neural networks) within
healthcare and progressively complex data.
• Minimum of 3 years of exposure to development of machine learning algorithms and predictive modeling.
• Track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
• Demonstrated technical leadership experience with small teams (e.g. product owner)
• Strong programming skills in environments such as Python, Matlab, R, SQL or other interpreted developmental
languages.
• Experience working with open-source clinical data sources.
• Ability to communicate and relate well to people of diverse backgrounds, training, and experience.
• Preferred Completion of recognized leadership training or certification from reputable institutions or organizations
