Mountain Operations Manager – Full-Time

Responsibilities Includes (but not limited to):

• Manage and oversee daily operations across the mountain, including but not limited to Snowmaking, Grooming, Terrain Parks, Maintenance, Safety/Risk Management, and more
• Engage in all activities as the working supervisor while assisting in the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising employees engaged in all aspects of Mountain Operations
• Coordinate and communicate with other Echo Mountain teams
• Develop and update Mountain Operations Schedules, SOPs, and Best Practices to ensure optimum efficiency and task completion, reviewing and adjusting as necessary
• Create and execute year-round slope maintenance plans
• Coordinate Mountain Operations staff to design, build, and maintain terrain park features in communication with management and incorporating customer feedback
• Create and execute plan for water supply management and snow production for optimum utilization of snowmaking system
• Ability to operate all equipment, including snowcats to perform daily snow grooming in accordance with proper grooming procedures and snow guns to make snow as needed
• Perform daily inspections of terrain across the mountain, including ski slopes, gladed-terrain, and parking lots
• Perform regular maintenance and repairs to a variety of equipment
• Lead and coordinate summer operations projects including but not limited to tree falling, stump and brush removal, grading, erosion control and irrigation
• Maintain, repair, and improve erosion control and land management plans
• Oversee inventory of parts, tools, and other supplies to order new quantities as needed to ensure minimal downtime and proper operation
• Complete and submit accurate budgets, logs, and reports for equipment maintenance, daily operations, inventory, and more
• Participate in development of annual Mountain Operations budget and capital improvement budget
• Assist in design and construction of capital improvement projects to support year-round Mountain Operations
• Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities for Echo Mountain and Mountain Operations
• Assist with staff training in the proper and safe operation of a variety of ski area equipment, including snow groomers, snowmobiles, pay loaders, compressors, pumps, plow trucks, UTVs, and all other equipment related to Mountain Operations
• Oversee and complete parking lot clearance
• Perform other responsibilities as required, including, but not limited to assisting other departments such as Maintenance, Lift Operations, Ambassadors, Rentals, F&B, Ticket Sales, Parking, and more

Education Level and Training: High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED) or its equivalency; Bachelor’s degree preferred; 5 years of previous advanced snowmaking experience required, 5 years of snow grooming experience to an advanced level required including winch grooming; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience: Previous ski area experience required, specifically with snowmaking, grooming and terrain operations

Requirements Include (but not limited to):

• Proven understanding of ski area operations
• Ability to operate all Mountain Operations equipment, including but not limited to snowmaking, grooming and heavy equipment, in all weather conditions
• Ability to ski or snowboard all levels of terrain
• Must have ability to verbally communicate, demonstrate, and explain concepts clearly to people of all ages and abilities
• Must be patient and empathetic to customers with a practical and “can-do” attitude
• Strong people management and motivational skills
• Ability to maintain composure under pressure/high volume and solve customer problems or issues
• Ability (in English) to read and comprehend simple instructions and respond to questions, short correspondence, and memos
• Ability to maintain logs, reports, and checklists
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, students, clients, and other employees
• Knowledge and experience with generators and electrical trouble shooting for 240/480v
• Must be able to regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 50 pounds, and perform other physically demanding skills, including standing for long periods of time
• Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays
• Must be able to work and function effectively at high elevations (over 10,500’) and in extreme cold and in other inclement weather conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
