We are actively hiring world-class talent to join our Grid Services origination team to help create the future of the grid by unlocking more value from distributed assets. This role will be tasked with creating programs through regulatory frameworks and with utilities, as well as generating novel business structures and partnerships with other load serving entities and non-traditional offtakers.
We are looking for a highly motivated, creative, and engaged person who has a demonstrated track record of disciplined execution. The ideal candidate will either have deep experience with DERs and/or with utilities and energy markets.

You'll work alongside other passionate product leaders, originators, analysts, policy team members, data platform engineers and program managers engaged in the design and development of VPP products that are making a positive impact on our world.

Responsibilities
  • Partners with the Head of Grid Services and our broader origination team on new business strategy.
  • Owns the relationship with certain external partners such as retailers, corporate offtakers, utilities, regulatory stakeholders and other DER companies.
  • Drives strategy around regulatory filings and legislative bills and acts as a subject matter expert (SME) to the Policy Team and externally to PUC staff and commissioners as well as utility SMEs and senior leaders.
  • Negotiates on both contract terms and regulatory program elements.
  • Develops modeling and provides direction on program and aggregate P&L, customer offer, contract terms, etc.
  • Creates memos, decision decks, and recommendations for senior level leaders.
  • Partners with the Grid Services Operations team in program development and handoff to operational leaders.
  • Partners with other relevant internal teams including pricing, sales, BI, investor relations, etc.
  • Achieves key business development goals on a defined timeline to further grow the grid services function.
Qualifications
  • Previous origination and / or entrepreneurial policy work in energy markets and/or utility energy services / demand response.
  • Strong understanding of national utility landscape.
  • Understanding of utility and electricity market regulation as well as the motivations of various stakeholders .
  • Understanding of innovation trends in the DER industry as well as the general clean energy transition; e.g., EV management, Order 2222, heat pumps, etc.
  • Strong technical communication skills and ability to understand complex concepts but then communicate those concepts simply and confidently.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Candidate must be a self-starter and work with little supervision; this position requires continual analytical research methods, precise calculations and the ability to "think outside of the box", as well as being prepared for constant change. Should possess excellent organizational and self-management skills.
  • Exceptional written and interpersonal communication and relationship skills to represent Sunrun with key external audiences including counterparties, partners and vendors.
PREFERRED:
  • Comfort and fluency engaging directly with technical models to structure program concepts and proposals.
  • Any of the following experience is beneficial:
    • experience structuring complex commercial contracts
    • energy regulatory experience at the federal or state level
    • consumer product experience.
  • In-depth understanding or experience of the electricity markets and/or DERs in California or Texas.
  • Travel required (30-60%) for conferences, partner meetings, team events.
  • This position can be remote or based in one of our corporate hubs: San Francisco, Lehi, Denver, New York, etc.

Starting salary/wage for this opportunity:
$144,510.19 to $192,680.25
Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility, which is based on company and individual performance, short and long term incentives, and program-specific awards. Sunrun provides a variety of benefits to employees, including health insurance coverage, an employee wellness program, life and disability insurance, a retirement savings plan, paid holidays and paid time off (PTO).
