Jewish Vocational Service is Hiring a Bi-Lingual Resource Center Assistant Near Boston, MA

JVS provides a broad range of services, including adult education, skills training, job readiness training, job placement and support, and access to post-secondary education. JVS assists employers in their search for well-qualified job applicants and their initiatives to upgrade the skills of their incumbent workforces.

Position Summary

JVS MassHire Downtown Boston is actively seeking a dynamic Bi-Lingual Resource Center Assistant to assist in an innovative, customer-centric, and technology-integrated career services at our MassHire Downtown Boston Career Resource Center. Collaborating closely with the Career Center team, the chosen candidate will assist clients, with translating, completing job applications, and refining resumes to ensure successful employment outcomes. This on-site position involves delivering personalized 1:1 assistance to customers within the resource center. This is a temporary position (up to 32 hours) that will last until June 2024. 

Essential Job Functions

Build Relationships, Collaboration, and Teamwork:

  • Demonstrate flexibility alongside problem-solving abilities.
  • Advocate for and actively promote the mission and philosophy of JVS MassHire, both internally and externally.
  • Operate seamlessly within both the JVS and MassHire teams to deliver high-quality employment services to residents across Boston neighborhoods.
  • Offer personalized 1:1 assistance to job seekers, aiming for job attainment for MassHire clients.
  • Engage effectively within a team environment, establishing and nurturing harmonious working relationships with key stakeholders, including participants, colleagues, partner organizations, and funders.
  • Serve and direct customers in accordance with the requirements of One Stop Career Centers, ensuring services align with individual customer goals.
  • Collaborate efficiently with other program and administrative staff to facilitate smooth customer referrals to suitable services and employment opportunities.

Accountability and Results Focused:

  • Understand and apply knowledge of internet resources for job seekers
  • With the support of the Employer Engagement team, assist job seekers to identify jobs
  • Participate in meetings and planning sessions with JVS MassHire staff to monitor services and implement strategies to improve performance and service delivery

Administrative/Communication:

  • Understand and promote policies and best practices of Massachusetts One-Stop Career Center Charter
  • As a public facing team member, demonstrate a professional demeanor with strong customer service skills
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in written form with compassion and professionalism
  • Exercises discretion in handling confidential information
  • Participates in meetings, in-service trainings, team-based projects
  • Communicates regularly with Supervisor to ensure smooth delivery of services
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications and Experience:

  • High School credential and/or training in career counseling, case management, community-based programming, or counseling; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Bilingual (English/Haitian Creole) preferred
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • High level of computer/technology proficiency
  • Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent meetings with clients and employers
  • May be requested to work outside of scheduled hours as defined by the needs of the department
  • Some travel by public transportation to training provider locations
  • Will attend occasional off-site meetings with partner organizations in and around the greater Boston area
