Summer Camp at the JCCSF offers one-week to three-week sessions in both the traditional day camp and specialty camp settings for campers in grades K-8. Dance Camps will be in session June 17 – August 2.There will be no dance camp the week of July 8. Our classic day camps feature arts & crafts, STEAM projects, and sports. Specialty camps include visual arts, nature exploration, musical theater, science and more.

The Dance Specialist will create, organize, and implement 1- week session of camp per camp. Dance Camps are offered for campers in grades 1-5. Campers will be introduced to the world of all things dance and hone their skills through hands-on experience.

The ideal candidate should have strong classroom management skills and must be able to implement a well-rounded sports curriculum for youth ages 6 - 11.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Be the primary role model for a group of campers, grades K through 5
• Create a safe, supportive environment for campers
• Plan, organize and supervise fun and stimulating activities 
• Help lead excursions while ensuring campers' safety 
• Set clear, consistent limits and resolve behavioral challenges with help from supervisors
• Take on additional responsibilities as required

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least 1 year as an educator
• Knowledge and ability to explain and facilitate age-appropriate design and tool use skills for elementary school-aged campers. 
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral. 
• Passions for sports, informal education and youth programs. 
• Knowledge of summer camps preferred.
• Ability to work well both in a team environment and independently. 
• Must have enthusiasm, flexibility, and ability to improvise a must. 
• Must be 21 years or older. 
• Must be able to lift 50lbs, stand/walk for approximately 6 hours a day. be actively engaged in the dance programming with the campers

Working conditions: 

Will be working with youth ages 6-11. The campers will have a home base camp room and will rotate specialist time in the dance studios on-site at the JCC. We will also utilize other performance spaces such as the atrium for small family performances.

DATE AND HOUR REQUIREMENTS:

• Paid Staff Training: June 3, 2024 – June 7, 2024
• Summer Direct Service Hours: June 17, 2024 – August 2, 2024. (NO Dance camp the week of July 8)
• 8:00am – 4:00pm, Monday – Friday 
• Up to 10 hours per week of prep time in May; 5 hours of prep work per week available in summer
