What your job will look like:
In support of the ESH Division Industrial Hygiene program at Jefferson Lab, this position will provide support to Jefferson Lab by assisting in the management of hazardous materials, conducting industrial hygiene monitoring, supporting the hazard communication program, inspecting emergency equipment, and providing training to staff for industrial hygiene-related programs.
Performs workplace exposure monitoring, chemical inventory, and handling of hazardous materials according to Federal, State, and Local regulations and DOE contractual requirements .
In this role you will ...
Support hazardous materials management program through chemical inventories and safety data sheet management.
Conduct workplace measurements using standard IH equipment to sample or directly assess hazard levels.
Conduct basic maintenance and pre-operational testing of IH equipment.
Perform IH instrument calibrations.
Inspect engineering controls and emergency equipment such as fume hoods, SCBAs, safety showers/eyewashes.
Provide hazard communication signs for the lab.
Provide respiratory protection fit-testing and equipment specific training to lab staff.
Assist in the development of IH related procedures.
Inventory materials and equipment, including specialized PPE maintained by IH group.
Conduct workplace hazard evaluations/work observations.
Qualifications We Require:
Education:
High School Diploma
Experience:
5 years of Industrial Hygiene/ESH field required, or
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to follow detailed technical instructions for the disassembly, cleaning, maintenance, reassembly, and functional testing of Industrial Hygiene equipment and specialized personal protective equipment.
Ability to read and follow technical procedures for the conduct of workplace measurements to assess worker exposure to hazardous substances and physical stressors.
Ability to interact with others in a way that promotes respect, encourages cooperation and participation.
Ability to document work performed in standard computer-based tools.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks.
Qualifications We Desire:
Ability to calibrate noise dosimeters, sound level meters, and air sampling pumps.
Ability to wear a respirator and perform inspections of emergency equipment.
Knowledge of environmental sampling (e.g. testing for lead-based paint and asbestos).
