Jefferson City Public Schools is Hiring a Teacher - Head Choir Director Near Jefferson, MO

Jefferson City High School is searching for an accomplished and dynamic teacher/musician to serve as its Choral Director. As Choral Director, you will collaborate with an Assistant Choral Director/pianist to lead a program of 3 curricular choirs. Those choirs include Chorale, the top auditioned mixed ensemble; Bella Voce, a select women’s ensemble; and Concert Choir, the non-auditioned choir. Additional responsibilities will be to teach one or two classes of Music Appreciation and/or Jazz, Pop, & Rock or other duties/classes within your expertise as assigned according to district needs.

There is an extra-curricular choir that can take many forms depending upon interest and personnel. A stipend is provided for work with that ensemble and it may be team taught or assigned to the Choral Director or Assistant Director. Other responsibilities will include music selection, assessment of the students in the program, responsibility for the completion of administrative duties, and promoting the department to the parents and the public at large. You must possess a valid Missouri teaching certificate or be close to completion of that certification. The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in the choral classroom and have functional piano skills.

The program enjoys widespread support in the community and is highly visible as it performs in its concerts. Of note is the 86-year tradition of the performance of Capitol Caroling, an annual Christmas concert that is performed in the Missouri Capitol Rotunda and combines the choirs, bands, and orchestras for performances of traditional favorites and accessible major works. Chorale has an impressive history of excellence with numerous and consistent top ratings at MSHSAA contests, consistent membership in All-State Choir, performances at MMEA state music convention and former graduates who have become music educators in their own right. Compensation is competitive with the district adding significant increases in the base recently with plans for future additions. Also, stipends are provided for work as the Choral Director and an extra-curricular ensemble.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest highlighting your skills and preparation as they apply to the job duties, a resume’/vita, and three letters of recommendation with contact info from individuals who are familiar with your work and skill sets. Audio or video of your teaching and or choral performances may be requested at a later date.
