JEFFERSON BLOUNT ST CLAIR MENTAL HEALTH AUTHORITY is Hiring a Jefferson County Schools Counselor Near Birmingham, AL

Counselor
Normal Working Hours/Days: Monday/Friday – 7:30 a.m. -4:00 p.m.. Times will vary to meet client/family/school needs.
Must participate in a 24 hour on call roster (every 7-8 months)
This employee will be located in an assigned zone of the Jefferson County Title I Schools and will be responsible for providing on-site mental health services to include mental health assessments, consultations, crisis intervention, individual, parenting, family and group therapy to students/family who are in need of mental health services.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for interviewing, evaluating, and assessing for mental health and other appropriate needs of children/families.
Responsible for properly assessing the unmet needs of the target population and devising an individualized service plan for each client.
Collaborates closely with the staff of Jefferson County Title I school systems, as well as other community resources, in order to provide or access appropriate services to meet the needs of the target population (mental health services, school/special education services, etc).
Responsible for individual, group, and family therapy with emphasis on behavior modification, rational-emotive therapy, strategic family therapy, parental education and other therapeutic approaches as appropriate to treatment needs.
Provides accurate documentation of electronic medical records on a daily basis, including clinical assessments, case plans, referrals, data collections, case reviews and follow-up tracking.
Responsible for providing and presenting clinical assessments and treatment goals at bi-weekly staff meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree from an accredited institution, who by education and training, is qualified to perform mental health/Medicaid rehabilitative services. Minimum of three years of clinical experience working with youth who present with a serious emotional disturbance and their families. Only individuals with Licensed Professional Counselor and/or Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor certification from the State of Alabama to be considered for the positions.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the special needs and behavioral characteristics of children/adolescents with a serious emotional disturbance and their families.
Knowledge of the available community resources.
Knowledge of psychotherapy principles and techniques.
Knowledge of psychotropic medications, including their use and side effects.
Ability to perform individual/family assessments.
Ability to make clinical decisions and recommendations in crisis situations.
