Mechanical/Structural Branch Manager

As Mechanical/Structural Branch Manager, you will report to the Director of Engineering and have a key leadership role in the following areas:

  • Develop future leaders at all levels in your branch.
  • Actively lead Business Development activities within your branch for small and singe-discipline projects to expose your staff to the business side of engineering.
  • Support our Business Development Principals in developing proposals for large and multi-discipline projects.
  • Stay abreast of the latest trends in technology and tools relevant to the disciplines in your branch and advocate on behalf of your staff for ongoing exploration and implementation of new technologies and training where appropriate.

In this role you will be responsible for working with your section supervisors in planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the allocated resources of a group of machine design and structural engineers and designer/drafters.This position will provide you the opportunity to manage the overall mechanical/structural branch, determine personnel requirements and assignments, evaluate individual employee and group results, provide employee performance feed-back, and make personnel-related decisions and recommendations.The Mechanical/Structural branch currently includes approximately 55 talented engineers and designers working on a variety of unique and challenging projects including quick turn-around projects ranging from a few hours to large multi-year projects with over 10,000 labor hours in a single discipline. The branch typically works between approximately 20 projects concurrently and up to three dozen projects each year.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·Marketing & business development efforts – actively sell work for your branch

·Engage with Supervisors and staff to counsel, coach, and monitor progress

·Help Supervisors and staff validate the technical approach including checking teams work when necessary

·Develop career growth path for Supervisors and employees

-Promotions/adjustments

-Voluntary training for professional growth

-Identify and groom future leaders

-Identify technical training needs and obtain funding

·Manage/balance workflow in branch

·Mentor employees as needed

·Conduct 1-on-1 meetings with your employees (quarterly)

·Conduct annual performance reviews

·Administer employee disciplinary actions and/or terminations

·Review and approve employee timecards (weekly)

·Lead branch staff meetings (weekly, monthly or as needed)

·Participate in long term planning for your branch – including recruiting/hiring and succession planning

·Coordinate Co-op & Summer Internship opportunities

·Attend monthly project reviews for projects that include support from your branch

·Work with Supervisors to ensure their engineers/designers plan their work in accordance with deliverables required, budget, and schedule

-Review/track Task Control Plans (monthly)

·Solicit feedback from customers and PM’s on individual and team performance and product quality

·Track/assign mandatory training for employees

·Travel between Jacobs offices and client sites as needed

Here’s what you’ll need:

1.Due to federal requirements for large portions of the assigned work a US Citizenship is required for this position.

2.BS or MS Degree in Mechanical, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering field.

3.BS degree requires a minimum of ten (10) years related experience. MS degree requires a minimum of eight (8) years related experience.

4.Requires demonstrated leadership skills as evidenced by prior supervisory experience. Must be able to effectively communicate with others.

5.PE license is highly preferred.

6.Must be knowledgeable of the entire design process including marketing, planning, estimating, budgeting, execution, delivering, post design, and construction.

7.Demonstrated leadership ability. Able to oversee a team of mechanical and structural engineers and designer/drafters, led by two or more supervisors, working on multiple small and large projects concurrently.

9.Must have strong time management and organizational skills.
