Summary:
This position serves as the first line of communication between a patient and care provider. Delivers the highest level of customer service and efficiency possible by greeting the customer, answering questions or providing general information.
Essential Functions:
· Welcomes patients and visitors, in person or on the telephone; answer customers' questions, and provide information on procedures or policies. Confirm that the patient’s preferred language is documented in NextGen EHR and that appropriate support is coordinated and available when attending to the patient needs.
· Answers phone calls and takes messages from patients during office hours, documents in telephone template of EHR and task the messages to appropriate individual in a timely manner. Will “flag” high priority messages appropriately in the tasking module. Messages requiring immediate attention, receptionist will communicate need to care provider or clinical team member in person. All means will be utilized to make contact immediately.
· Assist in coordinating and conducting patient care from pre-visit through post visit; attend daily morning team meetings at assigned clinic.
· Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone; appropriately utilize patient portal and electronic mail to contact patients who are in need of medical services.
· Maintains patient accounts in NextGen EHR by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
· Updates financial information; records and collects patient charges; filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
· Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal, medical and financial information.
· Maintains job responsibilities by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes.
· Participates in work-flow meetings and Quality Improvement (QI) meetings to assist in continuous refining of continuity of care for patients.
· And any additional tasks or assignments as may directed and the workload permits.
Minimum Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)
· 1-year experience in medical office environment or equivalent.
· Effective verbal and written communication on all levels and both internally and externally.
· Self-motivated, quick learner organized, detail-oriented, multi-tasker.
· Active listener that can negotiate and respond appropriately to the message being communicated.
