The ideal candidate for our interior designer position is a team player who is effective at collaborating with colleagues and partners but is also self-motivated and able to complete work to deadlines with minimal supervision. A visual portfolio of past projects is a definite plus for the interior designer candidate.Responsibilities:Find opportunities for new projects and bid on potential jobsWork closely with the client to determine his or her goals and requirements for the projectStudy the space (or the blueprints and plans for the space) to consider use and flow of people through and within the spaceCollaborate with architects, builders, mechanical and structural engineers, and other members of the project team to create and implement a design planCreate preliminary design schemes, either by hand-sketching or computer-aided design (CAD)Delineate project specifications including materials and furnishings to be used, such as flooring, furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and wall finishesEnsure that interior design plans comply with building codes and inspection regulationsFinalize plans using CAD applications to varying degrees of detail as required by the project, including design plans, floor plans, electrical layouts, and information needed for building permitsDevelop a project timeline and estimates for project costsObtain client approval for interior design plan and cost estimatePlace orders for all supplies and materialsOversee installation of the design elementsDebrief with client after project completion to ensure that goals were met and the project was done to the customer’s satisfactionQualificationsRequirements and Qualifications:Superior artistic and creative abilityStrong problem-solving skillsAttention to detail and an aptitude for visualizationExcellent interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate a vision to non-design-oriented peoplePassing score on state-approved interior design exam is required; comparable work experience in the interior design field may sufficeNational Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ) examCalifornia Council for Interior Design Qualification (CCIDQ) examBachelor’s degree in interior design, architecture, or related field strongly preferredCertification in LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) preferredA proven history of sustainable interior design work is a plusCertification in an interior design specialty—such as lighting design, universal design, or kitchen and bath design—is preferred, but not requiredPortfolio showcasing specialized design services is a plusAdditional InformationAll your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
